Sir Edmund Hillary

Sir Edmund Hillary

Sir Edmund Hillary was a famous person from Nz. He was known for many brave and shocking things and his most favourite was climbing the biggest mountain on earth Mount Everest. But it all doesn’t start their, he has did many things before that to climb the most fiercest tallest mountain regions on the planet earth.

Sir Edmund Hillary first climbed Mount Olivier in 1939. It was his first major climb and took place near Mount Cook in the Southern Alps. It was really hard challenge but he made it successfully with big braveness had it had many rough strong windy, terrains through the hard process of climbing the mountain.

Then the big time to shine had came it was time for him to climb Mount Everest with Tenzing Norway it took him 7 weeks to make it to the top but when he made it to the top he had to get down cause of the small thin air up there so when he came down he was then congratulated by the neplanese people and took a flight back to wards England to get knighted by the Queen. And before he became a Sir he then had a big heart and decided to make school and hospitals for people in Nepal which have no where to stay, learn and get healthy.

Then he had his first ever marriage in 1953 with Louise Rose and he got his first child Belinda but a tragical accident in Kathamandu in Nepal. His daughter Belinda and his wife Louise sadly passed away in a plane over Kathamandu, we will still remember them from when it happened in 1975.

In 1989 he then married again with June Mulgrew, who died on Air New Zealand Flight 901 in 1979. June, Lady Hillary, passed away sadly in Auckland on 1 June 2024.

But Hillary continued to be involved with charities like the Himalayan Trust and served as an Honorary President of the American Himalayan Foundation. He also appeared on the New Zealand $5 note in 1992, the only living person who was not a head of state to do so.

He was also believed to be the first ever person to reach both south and north poles of the planet earth.

Now this was the extraordinary life of Sir Edmund Hillary and he would always be a remembered beloved human figure of the history of earth.

Lynley Dodd

This term we learned about Lynley Dodd. Who is Lynley Dodd? Lynley Dodd is a New Zealand author and illustrator, and she makes books for children! She has made lots of books in her lifetime, her first ever book was “My cat likes to hide in boxes”. But that isn’t all she has made way more books! Her most famous ones are “Hairy Maclairy” ” Zachary Quack” “schnitzel Von Krumm’ and lots more!

Lynley Dodd was born in Rotorua on the 5 of July 1941 she is now 84 and still alive! she also grew up in NZ and she graduated from Elam School.

In my class we had to choose a group and choose a character from one of her big time books in my group we had : Aadi, Harkaran, Keyan and Zachary. And the character we choose was slinky Malinky and it was a cat! We also had to make a speech and actions based on the character for our Whole School Assembely. I was also the speaker of the speech and my group did the actions it was also really hard to prepare but our class nailed it and I was also really nervous it front of about 700 people!

Finally this term it was really fun learning about Lynley Dodd. Thanks for reading!

Aotearoa’s Worlds project!

/This is my NZ world in Minecraft!
In my group we have Harkaran, Aadi, Armaan and Yesh.

Questions/Answer time.

1. What Nz identify features did we include?                                                           In our world we included The Sky Tower and Harbour Bridge. The native animals we used is the Kiwi. And the tree is silver fern.

2. What did I learn about Aotearoa in this project?                                         I learnt the Aotearoa inside is actually a bigger country with lots of pride and beautiful monumental architecture in the country’s landscape and modern cities.

3.What digital skills did I use?                                                                            The digital skills I have used is Minecraft because we could use more blocks and colours to make our artwork in the monuments way more outstanding.

4. What would I do differently next time?                                                          Next time I would focus on the time we had because we speeded all our time working on ultra detail.

5. How well did we work together?
We worked pretty well together we used our teamwork to make our work better, one did the making one did the guiding and one did giving the blocks we needed.

Final perspective

We think that we did awesome work as a group. We did all our buildings individually which actually helped. It made our work finish way faster. Because at the beginning we were all trying to finish one thing all at the same time but, I got the idea me Aadi to do things individually so that we could finish our Aotearoa world faster and bigger, because we had a decent amount of people which is at 4 people.

Here is some photos of our work.   Sky tower-

Now here is a photo of our Harbour bridge

Here is a photo of our kiwi

Violet scarf

Violets scarf

Today, a miracle happened!

I was just doing my job and then boom! People were throwing parcels like nukes everywhere it was chaotic, but then one of the soldier said to me “ watch out there’s a parcel coming your way”! I catched it , and read the tag but when I opened it, it was my sister Violets scarf!, it smelled like my mom’s cooking from home and I hugged it so tight. Then two years later…

We arrived home as soon as I saw Violet I quickly ran to her and gave her the biggest hug. She said to me “ You got my scarf! “
