This week in steam we learnt all about famous people in New Zealand like Sir Edmund Hillary, Jean Batten, and Ernest Rutherford they all did some important things to change New Zealand.
Jean batten- broke the flight record in 1930 and was awarded all around the world
Sir Edmund hillary- first to climb Mount Everest and make it alive.
Ernest Rutherford- a scientist that was the first to spit atoms in parts.
all of these people are important by changing the world in different ways
I learnt lots from these people like what sir Edmund Hilary brought on his long trip and what school Jean batten went to to learn how to fly a plane and atom parts that Ernest Rutherford found out about.
In small groups, we were given a famous New Zealander to learn about. Some of us had Sir Edmund Hillary, the first man to climb Mount Everest! Others learned about Jean Batten, the amazing pilot who flew all the way across the world. Some of us even explored the life of Ernest Rutherford, the scientist who helped discover atoms!
In my group we had Jean batten. We worked together to find important dates in their lives – like when they were born, when they did something amazing, and when they changed the world. We put all our facts in order to make a giant timeline on a big sheet of paper. It was like building a story of their life!
We turned our paper timelines into digital timelines on Canva.
I learned:
How to work as a team
How to research important facts
How to make a timeline
It was fun learning about these brave and clever Kiwis.
⭐ l liked to make the timeline ⭐it was hard to find lots of info ⭐it was fun
On Thursday me my mum and my brother went to build a bear and we made a bear first we chose a bear ten we fillled it with Cotten and put a scent. After that we chose some clothing for them and we named them after that we went to the checkout and paid for it, it was so fun and it smells really good
This week in STEAM we compared the difference between the Sea Turtle and a Shark or a Whale. We used a compare and contrast chart to write down all the things that we found out that were the same and the things that were different.
I chose a shark because there are many types of sharks and they have lots of interesting facts and compared this with the sea green turtle from week 4.
This week for steam we made brochures of a sea animal of our choice I chose a sea otter. We had to write about there habitat and there lifecycle there Appearance and some extra facts.
I chose a otter because they are cute and interesting they live in lots of different areas and have a different type of lifecycle.
