Our podcast outline/script (melody and Amy-Paige week2/3)

In week 2/3 miss wang’s podcast group. Me and melody are working together on a podcast and we made a script/story outline. Here it is:

Introduction

  •  Scene 1- a forest
  • Narrator (melody): “welcome to our podcast,
  • Narrator and script writer: “”green speak””,
  • narrator: today we will be discussing about the concept of Kaitiakitanga through insects and how to help their environment”
  • Narrator: My name’s melody. I will be the podcast host.
  • Script writer (Amy-paige): , and I’m Amy-paige, I’m the script writer.
  • Narrator: We will be hosting this podcast together 😀
  • Narrator=N Script writer=S

Segment 1 : introducing Kaitiakitanga.

  • Scene 2 – something that represents the Māori culture

Maybe in the words of:

  • “Have you ever thought about how you can support the environment through Kaitiakitanga?”
  • “If you’re familiar with the concept ,have you ever applied it to your environment?”
  • “If you’re not so sure about what Kaitiakitanga is, this podcast is perfect for you! We will dive deep  into the meaning of Kaitiakitanga and show you how you can imply it to your surroundings though insects!.”

Paragraph/full version:

N:“What is Kaitiakitanga?”

N:”If you’re familiar with the concept ,have you ever applied it to your environment?”

N:”Have you ever thought about how you can support the environment through Kaitiakitanga?”

S:”If you’re not so sure about what Kaitiakitanga is or you want to learn more about it, this podcast is perfect for you!”

N: “We will dive deep into the meaning of Kaitiakitanga and show you how you can imply it to your surroundings through insects, especially the giant weta!”

Segment 2: insects and how they help kaitiakitanga

  • Giant weta
  • Scene 3- a giant wēta

N:”Giant weta play an important role in maintaining the health of our environment and helping it in lots of different ways.”

S:”For example, recycling dead matter like leaves and rotting wood, the Giant weta is a great decomposer.”

N:”The giant wēta contributes a lot in the breaking down of matter. This decomposition process enriches the earth, supporting the ecosystem.”

N:”Moreover, Giant wēta are an important food source for many animals, from birds to mammals.”

S:”Their presence and also insects,is a key indicator of environmental health.”

S:”Giant wētas and insects give so much for the ecosystem, we have to recognize the threats that many insects face today.”

N:”Habitat loss, climate change, pesticides, and pollution are increasingly impacting their numbers and diversity.”

N:”When ecosystems are altered or destroyed, insects lose the habitats they need for survival.”

  •  Segment 3: interviewing

Scene 4: a giant wēta

Questions:

  1. N “ Jacob our first question is what are some ways that you can apply kaitiakitanga to your environment?”
  1. N “ our next question is. Do you have any native species around your area? If so What are they? And how can you protect them?
  1. S “thirdly, would or could you recycle more waste than you are right now if you wanted to?”
  1. N “Is your area free from rubbish if yes, do you clean it?”
  1. S: “Have you performed kaitiakitanga in your environment before?
  1. N “How can you help your native animals and the community?”
  1. S “How is kaitiakitanga important to you?”
  1. S “Do you have a compost bin, if so do you know what you can recycle into soil?”
  1. N “If you find some rubbish at your local beach/park/where you normally go,do you pick it up?”
  1. N “Have you participated in a community event for kaitiakitanga? eg. cleaning up rubbish, helping people recycle waste, and maintaining a rubbish free beach?

Both”Thank you Jacob for your time!”

Segment 4 ending/conclusion:

scene- beautiful landscape

S:”Animals are important to the environment, if animals are gone, then the ecosystem would fall! unable to sustain itself.”

N:“We as the future generation of humans need to find out how to stop polluting the Earth and help it overcome the challenges.”

Both:”We hope this podcast has inspired you to take care of the environment.”

Both:”Thank you:)”

Life cycle of a mantis

A few weeks ago my class and I made a 3d life cycle on an insect, I selected the mantis for my cycle. You may be wondering how we made a 3d life cycle, well we used tinker card. The life cycles of a mantis is..

1. Soft egg

2. hard egg

3. nymph

4. adult mantis

here is a link to my tinkercard creation.

Q&A

1.

Q. What are the similarities and differences between the cicada and wēta

A. The similarities are that they’re both insects, they both have the following; head, antennae, thorax, legs. The differences is that cicada has compound eyes and wings and the wēta doesn’t.  The next is that a wēta has an exoskeleton and spiracles, meanwhile a the cicada does NOT

2.

Q. How do you think the differences affect the way the insects live, move or defend themselves?

A. Yes, I think since cicadas has wings (the wēta doesn’t) it’ll be easier for them to run/fly away from predators. Cicadas also have compound eyes which lets them visually Perceive the world around them, so they can see if anyone/anything is sneaking up on them. I also think that since the wēta has a exoskeleton which gives them the advantage of providing protection against predators.

3.

Q. Can you name other insects that have these characteristics?

A. A cricket is somewhat has similar characteristics to a wēta.

4.

Q. The wētā interactive has a label for spiracles, but the cicada interactive does not. Does this mean that wētā don’t have spiracles? How do you know?

A. The wēta has spiracles because it has a label on “spiracles” so they have it.

Roles of insects

A few weeks ago we went into groups for this activity. I was in a group with amirah, Evelyn kn, ceaser and prabhjeet. We worked on a slide on the 5 roles of insects (what they do) . The 5 roles are that insects pollinate plants, insects decompose waste and organic matter, insects control pest populations, insects are an important food source and that insects are inspiring. I wrote 5 reasons about “insects control pest populations”  1 reason is that some insects can be predators that hunt other insects. Another reason is that insects can protects and kill pests, killing pests can help you crops, gardens etc. And that’s what we did 🙂

Movie world

A few weeks ago my parents and I went to Australia. We went to movie world and went on this ride called DC: rivals. That roller coaster had a really steep drop. But we had to wait in line for 2 hours!!!  It was so exhausting and boring! When we finally got at the ride, I was so scared. When we were going down the steep drop I felt like I was dying. The next day we came back and went on the superman ride, it was kinda scary because it goes from 0km- 100km (per hour) but it was still very fun.
