Our class, Tūī 3, learned about the famous New Zealand band Six60. Six60 started in Dunedin when a group of friends began making music together at university. They became very popular for their mix of pop, rock, sounds. Some of their well known songs include rise, Special, and Don’t Forget Your Roots. Six60 has broken records by performing in huge stadiums and inspiring people all over Aotearoa. We learned that they are proud of their Kiwi identity and often celebrate Māori culture in their songs. Tūī 3 really enjoyed discovering more about this amazing New Zealand band.
We had to make a group of five people and create our own musical band. Each person had to play a real instrument, just like in an actual band. There had to be one drummer, one guitarist, one bass guitarist, and one pianist. I was in a group with Reyan, Ayan, Kavish, and Ayansh — that was my team. Together, we decided to name our band “The Chosen Onez.”
