In week 8 we started learning about Sir Edmund Hilary:
This week in STEAM, we had a super cool activity where we became history detectives! 🕵️♀️🕵️♂️
In small groups, we were given a famous New Zealander to learn about. Some of us had Sir Edmund Hillary, the first man to climb Mount Everest! Others learned about Jean Batten, the amazing pilot who flew all the way across the world 🌍✈️. Some of us even explored the life of Ernest Rutherford, the scientist who helped discover atoms! ⚛️
In my group we had…..We worked together to find important dates in their lives – like when they were born, when they did something amazing, and when they changed the world. We put all our facts in order to make a giant timeline on a big sheet of paper. It was like building a story of their life!
We turned our paper timelines into awesome digital timelines on Canva. We added pictures, and fun colours to make them pop! 💻🎨
We learned:
How to work as a team 🤝
How to research important facts 🔍
How to use digital tools like Canva 👩💻👨💻
It was fun learning about these brave and clever Kiwis. We think they would be proud of our timelines!
⭐”I didn’t know Jean Batten flew across the ocean by herself!” ⭐”We put Sir Ed climbing Everest in 1953 – that was our favourite part!” ⭐”Ernest Rutherford was super smart! I liked finding his science discoveries.”
We can’t wait to do more STEAM learning and share it with you next time! 💡✨
For our Minecraft world we had a kiwi bird, kowhai tree, sky tower and kauri tree.Me and Maryam couldn’t really finish it all because we started exploding some of the trees 🌲.We made a big black wall to be able to surprise each other Maryam and I started on a kiwi. For the kiwi bird I kind of struggled a bit.Because at first I made it on the ground but then I saw how Maryam wasn’t making hers 2D.So I copied and I made my bird to big and Maryam made hers look cute.So we used hers and for the trees I looked at Maryam’s trees and her kauri tree was big and her kowhai tree was small I don’t know why.Sadly we spent most of the time exploding trees for more land but it didn’t really work out great but I did the sky tower at the end for homework and it looks so so good 😊
Final Reflection
1. What NZ identity features did we include? Kōwhai and kauri trees the sky tower and the famous kiwi bird.
2. What did I learn about Aotearoa during this project?that their is a lot of native things that some people don’t know about.
3. What digital skills did I use?building and researching.
4. What would I do differently next time?by not spending most of the time talking, and staying on task.
5. How well did we work together?really good by having the equal amount of work and communicating really well with each other.
1. What could be some factors caused extreme weather?:When the storm or flood comes from the extreme weather then the sea, river, ocean or lake will rise and become an even taller then the water before and it would become a flood.
2. Could you related it to the water cycle?:The glacier would melt and come back down to the ocean then if the ocean has more water, the water would evaporate into the rain and then lots of rain would fall down and then it would restart the water cycle again.
Did you know that stars have a life cycle with birth and death?Smaller stars live longer since they burn their fuel more slowly. Massive stars have shorter life cycles because they run out of hydrogen much quicker than the smaller ones. The colour of a star indicates how hot it is.
The sun:
did you know that the sun can rotate at different speeds. The sun is pretty bright the temperature of the sun is 5,973 C to 15,000,000 C.degrees from the sun.Average orbital speed around the Milky Way:720,000km/h (200km/s) Star type:Yellow dwarf. Jupiter is the biggest. For scale,Jupiter’s Great Red Spot is about the size of Earth.Fifth From the sun Jupiter’s distance from the sun is 5.2 times the Earth-Sun distance, short and long. Jupiter’s day lasts only 10 Earth hours; it’s year is 12 Earth years.Nowhere to land, Big and light, many moons,Faint
