The insects in our world are a bit strange to us, from their antenna to their abdomen. Well we don’t have any antenna or any abdomen but they do some things like us. Let’s get to the questions.

1. What are the similarities and differences between the cicada and the wētā?
Well the cicada has wings and the wētā has jumpy legs but they both are insects and have a colour that isn’t black or grey. But then cicadas make a loud, anonying sound but wētās make a “TWINK, TWING, TWINK, TWING” sound so they are similar but also different.

2. How do you think the differences affect the way the insects live, move or defend themselves?

I think how insects live is they make little homes with their resources, already built homes or make a small borrow. How they move is they move their legs or wings to move around and they use their antenna to navigate to see where they’re going. And how they defend themselves is they have special abilities that we don’t to defend themselves like for example pray-mantis they have there big swords attached to their front legs / arms to fight the insects, spider, or bugs who threaten them. So I figure that that’s the same with the other insects.

3. Can you name other insects that have these characteristics?
Yes, I think. A fly and a blow fly have very similar characteristics same as a buff-tailed-bumblebee and a regular bumblebee same as a honey bee and a common wasp, they have the same body shape, and a mosquito and a crane fly they also have the same body shape but one sucks blood like a vampire and the other is attracted to light. There are a lot of insects that have the same looks or similarities with their appearance but the ones I name were the ones I could think of.

4. The wētā interactive has a label for spiracles, but the cicada interactive does not. Does this mean that wētā don’t have spiracles? How do you know?

Probably yes, because they are to different insects so they probably have different breathing holes (or spiracles) so maybe cicadas don’t breath or maybe they breath from their eyes or maybe they have a nose like us. I don’t know how to explain how I know so I’m going to leave it at this.
