KEEP OUT!

THE HOUSE STANDS ALONE ON THE HILL

So quiet and still

the heavy wind blows through the cracked windows

And well as the noise from the basement

THE HOUSE STANDS ALONE ON THE HILL

The ghosts roams around and try to scare you out

BUT not to avail for the ghost have gone to bed.

Perhaps you will see them again tonight

But don’t let that give you a fright

The Dark Sky – Explanation & Poem

How are stars used for Navigation?

Navigation is a method of determining one’s position on the earth by reference to the positions of the sun, moon, and stars, meaning with this method, as a navigator, you can determine your latitude by measuring the angle between tthe horizon.

Why is the Sky Dark?

the sky is dark at night, because the universe had a beginning so there aren’t stars in every direction.

What would the Dark Sky look like without Light Pollution? l

A place with no light pollution and pristine skies, you will be to see about 4000 stars.

Poem:

With a Dark Sky, I feel a deep sadness inside.

You can’t run away, there’s no place to hide, you can’t bury it deep down deep inside cause it return.

Sometimes I wear a tear on my cheek bigger than my dream waiting.

“Finally… It’s all over”

The end of a term

Fun and freedom all so cool

Oh, give me a break!

Summer tongue awakes

The joy of school holidays

The chill, warming in.

One fine crisp morning

Maybe a trip to the sea

Like the sun rises.

Coolness fills the air

Waves crash on the sandy shore

With no leaves to blow.

A cry of a bird

Every morning, outside

Roaring like the sun.

Week 4: Writing Doc Term 4

Title: Ambury Regional Park

(Tuesday 15 November)

* BEEP BEEP BEEP BEE- * (alarm stops) YES! TODAY IS THE DAY MY CLASS GOES ON A TRIP TO Ambury Regional Park! to learn about different fibres that they use for different types of clothing, stuffed animals/toys and farbick.

Wait before I get to school. I must check if I have everything I need by checking my list I made the night before.

List:

  • Correct Uniform “ Check”
  • Full and packed lunch “Check”
  • Hat “ Check”
  • Sunscreen “ Check”
  • Medication “ Check”
  • Rain-jacket “ Check”
  • Water chec- “ WAIT I FORGOT MY WATER BOTTLE”

NO! I’m going to be late for the trip! (time: 8:31) Where did I even put my water bottle?!Oh wait….I left it in the fridge oh well I might as well grab it now.

Finally I’m at school (time: 8:37) lucky I got here on time. Then when I got upstairs with my bag I went and sat on the mat with my bag, after waiting for 5 minutes the bell went and we did the roll and separated into groups that we will be staying with for the day. As we finished the roll we lined up in our groups and walked downstairs to wait for the bus. After waiting a few minutes the bus arrived I could feel my stomach filled with butterflies I was so excited!!

(time: 9:10) Once we were on the road we had to wait 20 minutes as we were waiting. People were talking and some of them were singing and as we were on the bus we saw mountains and lots more.(time: 9:45) WE HAVE ARRIVED! As we got off the bus it had a beautiful view of the mountains. Then we got into our groups and did the roll to make sure everyone was here, after doing the roll we followed the leader who leaded us to the barn, as we were walking it smelled really bad to be honest after we got there the Rangers introduced themselves to us and told us what we needed to do first and where to put our bags and there name. Name of Rangers: Jannie & Richard

(time: 10:22) First thing we needed to do was have our Morning tea before we did anything else. After having our morning tea we had to put our bags away in the little cupboard in the corner after putting our bags away we went inside in the barn and talked about ‘ How they shear sheep’s and what type of fur they use to make fabric and clothing. We were separated into 4 groups, I was the cow group which was Mrs B’s group. So after talking the Rangers thought one of the groups will stay here and one will go and watch the sheep’s being sheard.

So as the other group went to watch the sheep’s being sheard, we got to do an activity with the sheep fur and play with it for a bit. It was so fun because we got to feel sheep fur and you won’t believe how it felt like, it felt so oliy and thick it was hair but thicker. Then we it was our turn to go and watch the sheep’s get sheard and it was so Sad and I couldn’t even watch it was like a nightmare!!! and when I looked at the sheep it was like I could reads its mind, it was saying ” HeLp mE! “. So anyways I’m just going to skip that part because that was to sad and emotional.

Later, after looking at the sheeps, we went outside and talked about ‘ Why they don’t use scissors anymore to shear the sheep ‘ Well basically they told us they don’t use scissors anymore because it kinda hurts and sometimes cuts the sheeps on accident and thats why they don’t use them anymore. Also we talked about ‘ Why they have to make sure the sheeps are laying on their backs ‘ Well its to make sure that the sheeps don’t run away while getting shear. Next we were heading back and the teachers Mr.Wong, Mrs Davies and Mrs B were organising the groups so we could go and do our activity.

So once we got into our groups we finally got do our activity! I was so excited I had butterflys in my stomach, it felt like it was a dream. Later myself and my group went to our first ever activity. I was fine I guess… anyways the first thing we had to do was get a partner ( My partner was Sienna ). Second thing was to grab our selfives some sheep fur and a brush. Third thing we needed to do was, hold the tip of the fur and tap it with the brush litghly and wait until it becomes smooth. Once it become or you think it has became smooth, hold the end of the fur and ask your partner to hold the other end. last thing you do is twist the fur and pull at the same time.

Ding Dong! It was time for our next activity. The next activity was Felting! felting was so much fun was had different types of colour of sheep fur.. they didn’t colour-die the sheeps they just shear them first then I think washed them, then colour died it. So we had different types of colour fur, the colours were Orange, Blue and Purple and it was so funny because once we got our fur we had to spread them out and it looked like Troll hair. Second was stack them and them wait until Ranger: Jannie puts you to a sink.

There was Six sinks so we had to be four people on each sink and the first thing we had to do with our felt was rinse it and then after rinsing you have bubles and if you want bubbles you will have to say “Bubbles” in a funny/werid voice like “BuBbLeS” or like “BUBBLES!!!!” It was really funny hearing funny and silly voice there. Later on that day were still there making our felt and the last thing we needed to do was so Crazy because we had to HULK SMASH IT! and it was crazy but my poor uniform got bubbles on it. But it was really fun and I think everyone else enjoyed it too I really Loved seeing the smiles on their faces and hearing them laughing but anyways it really enjoy it.

DING DONG! It was time for lunch! [ A Few Minutes Later ] It was time for our every last activity. The last activity was my favorite was went on an 1 Hour walk and it was so Amazing we saw animals like Pigs, Chickens, Sheeps, Lambs, Turkey and lots more we even went in an Insect Garden nd there wasn’t really that much bugs or ceatures there. But oh my god the part when we got to the feild it was so Beautiful cause you could see the sunset and the mountains and when we walked you could feel the cold breeze and the shine of the sunset reflecting on my skin, Ahh it was Beautiful. Thats all I really enjoyed it and I thanks to Mr.Wong, Mrs Davies and Mrs B for taking us To Ambury Farm!

TALES OF MANUREWA

TALES OF MANUREWA

NGA MATUKURUA – THE TWO BITTERNS

The manurewa legends

Around the name of  Matukurua centre are the historic memories of two fortified hills at Manurewa which were known as Matuku Tureia, the vigilant bittern and Matuku and Tururu, the bittern standing at ease, names which commemorate two chiefs who commanded the forts. Matukutururu was so nicknamed because in time of expected war he had gone eel fishing and fallen asleep, to be captured, with his people by the enemy. Matuku-tureia, by his vigilance, saved his pa and people.

Why do we celebrate te reo maori?

“Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori is important to us at Mercury because it’s a chance to celebrate our indigenous language that is key for us connecting with our partnerships, which include the Waikato River iwi and our commercial geothermal partners.

Why is te reo maori important?

Learning Te reo maori helps students to grow as learners. They discover more ways of learning, more ways of knowing, and more about their own capabilities. They may become more reflective as they compare what they know of their first language with what they are learning in te reo maori.
