Kaitiakitanga
Kaitiakitanga
What it is:
Kaitiakitanga means “Guardians of the Earth”. Māori people believe that there is a deep kinship between humans and nature. They believe that we should take care of our environment. One reason is that trees produce oxygen to breathe. Another is that we need to keep water clean and safe so we can stay hydrated. Those are some reasons why, so take care!
How to show Kaitiakitanga:
1: Use and dispose of harmful materials properly. 2: Don’t dump waste in rivers, lakes, and oceans. 3: Don’t overuse fertilisers.
4: Join a beach, stream, or wetland cleanup team. 5: Don’t litter, especially these items: Motor oil, Pesticides, Leftover paints or paint cans, Mothballs, Flea collars, Household cleaners, and a number of medicines.
