The Triatomic Molecules: Ernest Rutherford
The Triatomic Molecules: Ernest Rutherford
Olivia, Isla and Cassandra
For Term 3 STEAM with Miss Goodwin, we researched the history of some New Zealand legends.
In small groups, we chose a famous New Zealander to learn about. Some groups chose Sir Edmund Hillary, the first man to climb Mount Everest. Others learned about Jean Batten, the amazing pilot who flew all the way across the world. And some groups explored the life of Ernest Rutherford, the scientist who helped discover atoms.
In my group,(Olivia S, Isla and I) we decided to give our group a name: The Triatomic Molecules. It is named after an atom consisting of three different atoms. As our person, we chose Ernest Rutherford. We all worked together to find important events in his life – like when he was born, when he split an atom, and when he died. We put all our facts in order to make a timeline on a large sheet of paper. It wasn’t easy!
We turned our paper timelines into digital posters on Canva. We each did our own ones. I decided to make my design like a road across time, and I added a fancy font. I made sure not to make it too complex, though. Here is my timeline of Ernest Rutherford’s life:
We learned:
- How to work well as a team
- How to research certain facts
- How to use digital tools like Canva
It was fun learning about these brave and clever Kiwis. We think they would be proud of our timelines!
⭐ “I didn’t know Ernest Rutherford was knighted in 1911.”
⭐ “Ernest must have been really smart to have become a professor.”
⭐ “It’s strange to think he was honoured after his death.”
Thank you for reading my blog! 🍀
