This term, we started doing free swimming lessons at the Manurewa Leisure Centre, for our school. We did our first lesson on Wednesday this week. We got outside the school and sat on the steps waiting for the mini bus to come, when it came we entered one by one and made our way to the pool.
We took off our clothes on top of our swimming togs and they introduced themselves, then told us to sit by the side of the pool. I sat next to my friend Sadie. Then they told us to get in the pool slowly. Then two at a time we would freestyle swim to the end of the lane, me and Sadie were at the front of the line so we went first. They sorted me and Sadie into group three.
Our group started by doing some relay racing and my team was with Sadie, Chanel, Tayler and Halan. We also did some swimming only using our legs, then only using our arms. Then we did a cool exercise where we had to catch something in the water, but only swim using our legs. One of my favourite things we did was definitely when we had to retrieve something from underwater, but we had to balance a board on our head, everyone just held it but once I picked up the little thing I decided to try and go with only one hand holding the board, nobody dropped it and the lesson was super fun.
