Benefits to the Gardens Community

To the lovely, Mrs Fowler

I have a proposal to help with being Kaitiakitanga around the gardens but first, in case you don’t know what Kaitiakitanga means, it is the guardianship of the environment. Anyways I think it would be a fantastic idea because…

REASON 1: Why it would benefit us:

We could go on walks maybe once or twice a term around either the school or the gardens (School for the year 0-4, and the Gardens for year 5-8) and while walking we could pick up any rubbish we see and also learn about being Kaitiakitanga and our native plants. Also, when we go on these walks, it could count as PE for the week so that could let Miss Waston plan cooler stuff like Cross Country, Athletics, waterday, tournaments, ect.

REASON 2: Why it would benefit the Gardens/community:

If we did do this then the gardens would be cleaner and the Puhinui stream would be too! And animals would be safe from eating other people’s rubbish like dogs, birds and ducks. The people in the community would probably be happier too because they wouldn’t be walking around in other people’s rubbish. And of course the environment would be cleaner too right?

REASON 3: How it could benefit the community:

It would make everyone happier because they hopefully wouldn’t be seeing rubbish everywhere like on the side of the road or in the bushes. And in the gardens, it would be cleaner and people dogs wouldn’t be eating random stuff they find while walking.

And that’s why I think going on walks around the gardens and the school will help the Puhinui stream and the community as well because it would be cleaner, less messy, less gross and safer for the animals that live in its habitats.

Life as a Coke Can.

I was just sitting in the fridge, waiting to be picked up. I spoke to the other Coke cans beside me. They were talking about what happens when you get picked. “I heard, they love you until you run out then they throw you aside” one of them said. “Yeah! well I heard they suck the life out of you then squish you to death and then chuck you to the side like a piece of trash”. Everyone just started at him… then the fridge opened.

The human looked around the fridge then reached their hand out and grabbed… ME!! She placed me on the bench and walked away. I had never been out of the fridge before and I was so excited that when she walked back and opened me, I started spilling all my insides out. “Dang it! Dads not going to be very happy” she fround then she poured me into her glass and I could feel my soul melting away. “Whats happening to me?!”. then when I was empty she squashed me then chucked me into the bin.  And that was the end of me…until.

Botanic Gardens Visit

Last Tuesday we went to the botanic Gardens and in my personal opinion it was so much better than Totara park because it wasn’t as muddy and there were basically no stairs. While we were there we went on a scavenger hunt and learnt about our waterways. During our stay there, I was in Miss Rowland’s group.

The Scavenger Hunt

In this task we needed to find plants with the first letter of it’s name being a letter from the alphabet. First we went to The Edible Garden and everyone was asking if we could eat anything from it because it’s called, The Edible Garden but unfortunitly no, we could not eat anything from it.

After that we went to this flower garden place, beside where we were having morning tea. While in there I got a lot of letters because there were just so many flowers and things.

Next we went to a Palm tree area where I got a little more plants from there.

Waterways

With waterways, all we really did was walking around the duck pond and go see a waterfall by a bridge that led us back to our morning tea spot. However we did learn how water goes into the toilet. Apparently it comes from the celling where they have tanks and it flows down to the toilets.

Here are some of the photos

Reflection of Tōtara Park

Today for two whole blocks, (including morning tea), we went to Tōtara park and went on two very tiring walks and while doing this we used the Seek app to help us identify different plants and animals.

While walking it was very muddy, wet and I didn’t see that many animals because it was so loud however using the app was really good because it had a system that told us how accurate it was, however during morning tea both of my vips broke on my bag but luckily I had a spear, small bag in there so I moved basically everything in there so it would fall out but it was so heavy!!

Also when using the Seek app I found it very easy to identify different plants although my camera was glitched and it was very confusing to work around.

I learned to try not to break my bag while going to tōtara park for more than half of the day and to pack a little more water.

These are the plants I found

The Inside Ocean

It felt like I was about to boom.

I felt as hungry as a shark,

like I could swallow someone’s heart.

I felt as cold as ice.

though it was very nice.

I felt like gold when I was young,

but now I think that I’m hamstrung.

The ocean was so pure,

and blue, it felt so mystical and true.

Wonder what would happen if I ate one of the fish

I would probably cause a big swish!

Should yeah 7/8s perform at polyfest?

Why I think Year 7/8s should not be able to compete at polyfest.

Point #1

I think year 7/8s shouldn’t be able to compete because I think they should enjoy it as much as possible because in highschool, then they will probably need to perform.

point #2

They get to look forward to performing at polyfest in high school when they are a bit older and have learned/know more about everything and again, it gives them something to look forward to!

Point #3

I think it might be too much stress from them with assembly rushing up and polyfest being so close, after practising for the polyfest performance they need to rush into practising from assembly.

Point #4

Safty. There are s many people at polyfest that it is very hard to get lost or seperated from your school/group.

So those are my four points on why I think Year 7/8s shouldn’t perform in polyfest.

Digital Art

Last Tuesday, in the first block we had our first Digital Art session. It was very enjoyable because we had to use canva to make something that had layers, birds, plants and all of those nice things and it was completely up to us on what it looked like and how we would lay it out.

Here are the steps we had to take to make this creation:

The first steps: Open a new A4 project on Canva and decide on page layout: Portrait or landscape

Second steps: Decide a background colour

Third steps: Add a pattern for the background and make it bigger than the canvas size.

Forth steps: Choose 1-2 images from the Land/Whenua folder (optional), download and import onto Canva project.

Play around with the size, orientation, rotation, layering and transparency.

Fifth steps:Choose 2-4 images from the

Flora Folder, download and import onto Canva project.

Play around with the size, orientation, rotation, layering and transparency for each payer/copy.

Sixth step: Choose 1-2 images from the

Bird Folder, download and import onto Canva project.

Play around with the size, orientation, rotation, layering and transparency for each payer/copy.

Last step: Check to make sure all the layers are in an order you’re happy with!

After following all of those steps u should come up with something like mine!

Deserted Island

If I was stuck on an island and I could only bring…

3 books

Anne Boleyn: My story book

Lady Jane grey: My story book

Any kids picture book

and

3 Songs

Chiquitita by: ABBA

Dancing Queen by: ABBA

Mama Mia by: ABBA

Books

Why would I bring the Anne Boleyn book?

Because I haven’t read it before and I think it would entertain me quite a bit before someone comes to save me or something.

Why would I bring the Lady Jane Grey book?

Because I don’t really understand/remember anything I read last year so this could be a little refresher.

Why would I bring the kids book?

Because I like looking at the pictures also because It would remind me of my childhood and I love that feeling.

Songs

Why would I bring the song called Chiquitita?

Because I like the words they chose to use in the song and also, I love the band ABBA.

Why would I bring the song called Dancing Queen?

Because it really reminds me about when we used to drive to my beach house with my dog and my grandparents would put this song on and I used to do the silliest dances.

Why would I bring the song called Mama Mia?

Because I love this song from ABBA and also one day I want to try and watch the musical Mama Mia because I think it would be really good!

My first few days in Kāhu 2024

These first few days in Kāhu have been quite exciting. The first day was as normal as it could be. We got told which teachers we were with and our home whanua. Then we messed around with our stationary, books and tote trays. After we set up our wātaka we had our first rotation with Miss Rowland about Intermediate Expectations. (I don’t remember what happened in last block)

The second day I had my first PE session with Mrs Dissmeyer which was better than most PE sessions. Then I went back inside to do book standards with a new teacher in the Kahu space, Mrs VT and she was really funny and kind. Then In the second block I went with Mrs Kelly to set up my P.A.L which is apparently what we are calling the dossier now. After that I went to Mrs Barrowman’s space to learn about digital literacy and set up my drive which was basically the same as last year. And I forgot what happened in the last block!

The third day was kind of boring but not as much as other days. The first block we had Intro to leadership with Miss Smith which was ok, even though I don’t really remember anything but anyways. Then we had Lantern Art until morning tea which I think we started on the first or second, last block. The second block was very boring because Miss Rowland was explaining Self Directed learning (not saying that Miss Rowland talking is boring, but the topic definitely was). And again I forgot what we did in the last block

Then the Last day of my first week of school wasn’t that bad,… kind of. The first block was fine because we had a writing asTTle and I like writing but the second block was a WHOLE other story. For the whole block we had house games, ughh. Although during lunch some of my friends visited me for lunch so that was REALLY fun and probably made my whole day! (I forgot what happened in the last block)

And that was all that happened in the first week of school. Nothing really exciting. It was just like last year but with different people and less overwhelming because I had already done everything before!!
