Pollution

Introduction

Have you ever seen a plastic water bottle roaming around, or a chip bag? That’s called pollution/littering and it’s HORRIBLE! Pollution is a big thing and even a small thing such as a plastic bag could harm our environment.

Ocean dumping
Most likely you’ve swam in the ocean before, and you probably know that there’s life in the ocean/ aquatic life, but at the moment that life is dying, from… pollution! In one minute 33 billion pounds of litter is added to the ocean, over all 5.25 trillion pieces of Pollution overall in the ocean. Just imagine seeing all that rubbish in one group! The ocean is 71% of our planet and its heavily polluted and with the other 29% well I would want to say it’s clean but sadly I can’t because that 29% has 292.4 million tonnes!

Littering
Yes there’s a lot of litter/pollution in the ocean but there’s also tons on land! I’m guessing you’ve been on a walk more than once in your life, well just imagine walking around your city and seeing 1.6 million tons, yes you heard me 1.6 million tons! Have you ever seen those couches, or bed frames on the side of the road, well that’s called illegal dumping and it’s horrible! As you can see littering is a big part of pollution and is mostly our fault.

Humans and their problem

Fossil fuel, one of the main problems in pollution. Yes fossil fuel is natural but that’s not the point, when humans burn fossil fuel it releases large amounts of carbon dioxide into the air. Some humans think the ground is a perfect rubbish bin but they don’t know how far something as small as a bottle cap can kill so many different types of animals, eg: birds, rabbits, or so much more! Just take a look at our polar bears, our actions have made them lose their natural beautiful land.

Solutions

Yes humans caused all of this horrible stuff to happen but we can also fix it! Something as small as picking up a water bottle can go a long way, just imagine if everyone picks up at least one piece of rubbish. So next time you see a rubbish bin don’t avoid it and throw your rubbish on the ground, guess what its actually there for a reason!

Conclusion
It’s horrible with the results we have gotten because of our actions and what we have done is not erasable but can still slowly be fixed. As you can see pollution comes in many ways and all of them are horrible for our planet, killing animals, plants, and more! After that I hope that next time you see a plastic bottle or bag you pick it up and put it in the bin (because it’s not there for decoration).

Kaitiakatanga

Previously we went to Tōtara Park to learn about our enviroment, because this term our focus is Kaitiakatanga meaning gaurdians of the enviroment.

To help us learn more about the enviroment more we had an app called seek! Seek helps us discover more by telling us the type of plant, insect, tree, animal, or flower, just by taking a picture. To make sure the title of the thing is accurate we have to look at the 7 dots at the top, if the 7 dots are fully coloured it means it is fully accurate if not its not sure so you need to have a clearer picture.

When we arrived we had to go toilet for the upcoming 2 hours! After that we got split into 2 groups, Kahu 1,2,4, and Kahu 3,5,6. When we split up, we went two different ways/different trails. While walking two different track i noticed one had more dips than the other.

Upon our walk we took photos on the seek app here are all the plants I discovered:

On this trip not only did I learn alot I also had alot of fun. Using the seek app was really fun but informing at the same time!

ANZAC

Anzac Day represents a Memorial Day for the Australian and New Zealand soldiers but why do we celebrate it?

Well it marks the first major military action fought by the Australian and New Zealanders. It all started in 1915 April 25, the Australian and New Zealand troops landed in turkey and was ready to fight, thinking that it would be cool to explore and earn respect for there country.

4 years later…  60,000 Australian soldiers died and 16,000… New Zealand soldiers died. Altogether 40 million people died in world war 1.

109 years later…  ANZAC  day was made to remember the soldiers that fought for WWI and New Zealanders and Australians celebrates ANZAC day every year on 25 of April and people celebrate it in many different ways by waking up early and having a big Kai to having and making an ANZAC cookies.

History behind polyfest

It all started in 1976 were 3 students and staff members such as Mr Bill Tawhai, Mr Hone and Mrs Heni Green saw the polyfest as success. They informed other schools and met up at Hillary college and performed their items. 54 years later Polyfest still goes strong with cultures all over the world joining in, with not only dances but cultural food too. Now schools and family around the North island come to Manukau sports bowl to present and celebrate at Polyfest.

The mysterious griffon

The Mysterious griffon

by Ellee Meleisea

The Beauty of its
face filled up a blank space.
It shined as bright as a light,
that it wasn’t dark in the night.
It’s claws as sharp as knifes.

The feathers covered its body like a glove.
It flies and watches over us from above.
Its wings flap in the sky,
she’s always so high.
“Chirp Chirp” went the bird.
She heard she was the wisest being in every city.
But she was still with pity.

Its tail was a snake, moving on the ground,
It was so stealthy I couldn’t hear a sound.
Her ears could hear everything around.
She could see everything that surrounds,
When she looked down she could see every single town.
Her eyes like cats and sight like hawks.
It was so easy to stalk.

The night sky

The darkness covered the sky like a glove.
It spread lots of love.
The stars were glistening in the night sky.
The moon was hung up high, shining a cast of light over everything in sight.
The sky was as pretty as a dove, while the moon was casting love.
The stars were prancing up high.
The stars were so bright, the brightest in sight.
But after a while the sun came up and the stars had to end there fun.

My Digital Art Blog

Last week we had digital art where we made an art piece called Flox also know as Hayley King, Flox art is known for being very unique and interesting.
When I made mine I wanted it to pop so I tried using bright colours. I also had to download pictures from different folders, when I chose my images I had expectations of how much I got to pick, but we also got to layer the images and I experimented with the colours of the images and designs.
After experimenting with my art I had to pick a bird and I  picked a piwakawaka, because it fit nicely with my piece.

My First Few Days In Kahu 2024

These first few days have been…

I was overwhelmed for intermediate, and scared that I wouldn’t be able to keep up with work because to me intermediate is a big step, but I’m the teachers helped me so much by settling in and also explaining task in a way that everyone can understand. It has been very busy with work but it’s nice to stay entertained and busy. What was I busy with? I was busy with tons of work like applying for tech groups, jobs, performance groups and so on…

Overall the first few days of Kāhu was adventurous and exciting.
