I learnt that there are many different types of insects that pollinate, not just bees and butterflies. Many different Flies, seven spotted Ladybirds, Yucca Moths and many more insects pollinate the earth. Insects like dung beetles are very important. Without them, our earth would be very smelly! Many insects decompose waste which supports new plant growth. They ensure our lovely ecosystems can thrive and have lots of nutrients. On the other hand insects help the environment by warding off or killing pests. Pests can eat native plants or can be a threat to us humans. Tons of pests carry disease within themselves. Pests can also destroy crops by eating them. They can lower the numbers of native species. Insects such as green lacewings, tachinid flies and a lot more. These interesting creatures are important food sources! Did you know beetles can be a delicacy in some countries? Thousands of birds and mammals depend on insects as an essential food source. According to Google insects are important in about two billion people’s diets! They are high in fat and protein. Insects are inspiring. They come in many different colours and patterns, sizes and shapes. They can settle into new environments. We can study them and learn about their unique features and characteristics.
