Te wiki o te reo Māori

Today we performed kapa Haka before school. There were parents and kids there to watch the kapa haka group perform the dances. We did 4 waiata and a Māori āēiōū Māori song to warm our voices up.

One  of the waiata we did was te manurewa o te Tamapahore. It was very fun because there were people watching and it was nerve wracking at the same time.

At lunch time this week we had lunch time Activities where we could make poipoi and read Māori stories and make Māori bookmarks. It was very fun and we got to spend time with other teachers.

Māori beliefs

The Maori held an essentially spiritual view of the universe. Anything associated with the supernatural was invested with tapu, a mysterious quality which made those things or persons imbued with it either sacred or unclean according to context. Objects and persons could also possess mana, psychic power.

Great blog! I just have a little feedback: maybe you could use subtitles, so that people know when the topics changing. Like the “Māori beliefs” paragraph.

This is a very nice explanation about what it is and how you celebrated it. I liked the words you used like mysterious. Loved your Kapa Haka performance Gurleen
