Cross Country
Cross Country usually starts on the 5th of July but due to the weather, it got postponed to the 27th of July. Thankfully we got to do it at the start of next term.
Cross Country was considered to take place at Totara Park however, Mrs Cosford (the organizer) decided to change the route. It took place in our school field, up the hill, and then past a bunch of streets. We finished off with big puddles of mud and water. There were a bunch of people cheering for their house colours. Cross Country is an annual school-wide event that involves students running, jogging or even walking. The year 0-3’s have it in the field and the year 4-8’s normally have it at Totara Park. Each year level competes with the same gender, year level so that it’s fair. Ladies are first, gentlemen are 5 minutes afterwards.
Cross Country isn’t about who the fastest runner is, it’s about how hard you tried, it’s also to make you more fit and it makes you more confident about running. Many schools don’t do Cross Country but our school is unique and wants students to be more confident in running. They also want students to be able to take part in fun events!
I didn’t feel comfortable and confident at first because I don’t like running that much, since Cross Country wasn’t about being the fastest runner or being first I felt better because I didn’t have to try as much. It is a bit of a complex running activity, but being able to participate in Cross Country with my friends makes me feel more confident about running.
I learned some new things about Cross Country. The first one is that it isn’t about who the fastest runner is, it’s about how hard you tried, also to make you more fit. It makes you more confident about running! The second being, don’t give up because there’s always room for improvement. Although there are many more, these are 2 of the important things.
In conclusion, It’s fun but exhausting in my opinion. I would do it again next year however, it’s going to be a longer track so it’s going to be very complex.
