The Commonwealth games happen every 4 years, it’s like the Olympic games but with fewer countries and fewer games. There are many countries in the Commonwealth games however not many people know what Cameroon is or why is Cameroon in the Commonwealth countries?
It starts off with Cameroon’s history. Between 1884 and 1916, Germany combined the southern and northern areas into a colony. Germany’s downfall in World War I led to Cameroon’s separation between France and Britain. The French ruled the east from the capital of Yaoundé. The smaller British area to the west was ruled by Nigeria. Independence was achieved by the French Cameroon in 1960. In 1961, people in the southern part of British Cameroon chose to join in an alliance with the new republic, People in the north chose to join together with Nigeria.
Cameroon’s name comes from the cameros or prawns that some 15th-century explorers found in the Wouri River! Cameroon is triangular in shape and is bordered by Nigeria to the northwest. It’s a mixture of deserts in the north, mountains in the main areas, and beautiful rainforests in the south. Their capital city is Yaoundé and the population is more than 25 million people!
The Commonwealth countries are very independent and competitive, hopefully Cameroon gets more medals than this year in 4 years.
