Ambury Regional Park
At last, the day I’ve been waiting for. It has come so soon, I forgot to prepare my lunch for today. “Mum? Can we go to the bakery to get some food for my trip today?” I called out loud while scampering to get ready. “Sure, if you hurry. Go microwave some milk for your brother” my mum said. We finished putting on our shoes and hopped in the car. “Take my card and go buy whatever you want. Get your brother something as well!” Whatever, I can’t wait to see the animals there! There will be tons of sheep, chickens and hopefully baby chickens! I wonder what else will be there though… Oh right, goats and cows! Maybe a… I don’t know. I should just hurry and place my order.
Wow! “This place stinks!” one of my classmates shouted as we got off the bus, how immature. “I smell this like every day, it’s not even that bad! If you think this is bad then try smelling horse poo every day” my friend shouted back, she was right even though I don’t smell horse poo every day, although I see it every day, which is my brother. We got sorted into our groups and we had our morning tea. I packed a lot so I was pretty full for the next hour. “Alright, hello everyone my name is Jeanne! (Pronounced ‘Je-nean’) and I will be one of your many helpers today, luckily we have awesome parents to join us” our tour guide yelled. We headed to our first activity which was matching animal hairs to the correct picture. We didn’t finish on time but that was alright.
The second activity was pretty smelly, we got to watch rams get shorn. The odour was substantial but the longer we inhaled it we got used to it. Once we were finished we went to our third activity, it was interesting and we got to twist some wool into this tight string almost like a rope. “This is surprising and it’s incredible,” my friend said to our tour directory. “Yes. You see, this fur is quite different from other types of animal fur.” We were already moving on to lunch! I was so hungry that I scurried to my bag and started eating. “You guys will be doing the self-guided walk and learning how to connect sheep wool. I hope you guys have fun!” the tour guide said. “Fun… I want to see the baby chickens” I said to my friend while putting my bag away.
“Rub, rub, rub everyone! Quickly, we have to move on to the next activity” the tour guide said. We were felting dyed wool, we had 3 colours. Blue, orange and purple! We felt them by pouring hot water on, put a few pumps of soap and started to rub them together so that they would felt. It was a really interesting experience. Moving on to our self-guided walk. “Wow! Look at that pretty cow, that cow is so pretty! Her name is going to be peach because she looks like one” my friend said as she ran up to it. “Really? Are you that obsessed with a pretty cow?” “What? She’s pretty.” We saw lots of animals on that walk. We spotted the baby chickens I’ve been dying to see, turkeys, a wild lazy pig, lambs and rabbits! Gosh, there was so much more to see but we ran out of time.
“Feels good to have a nice rest after walking so long, I’m going to have a little nap. Wake me up when we get to school” I said tiredly, closing my eyes. I woke up to hear giggling and a tickle behind my ear. It was one of the teachers and my friend. “Wake up,” my friend said giggling. “Ugh, I had such a good nap. We’re not even there yet!” I replied. When we arrived back at school we were all so tired and as worn out as an ugly Christmas sweater, we talked about what we had done and went home. It was one of the best days I’ve had in weeks.
