Netball

Today, I want to share with you a new sport I learned about the sport is netball. I didn’t know much about it before, but now I’m going to tell you about it. Netball is a sport with 7 players on each team. It’s similar to basketball but with some different rules. You have to work together to score goals and each player has a special job. The game is usually played on a rectangular court with goal rings at each end.

I think netball is a good sport because it’s fun to play. You get to run around, and move around instead of sitting all day and get some exercise.

As I said there are 7 players on each team and each one has a special job. The Goal Shooter scores goals, the Goal Attack helps the Goal Shooter score, the Wing Attack runs up and down the court, the Centre is kind of like the boss on the court, the Wing Defense tries to stop the other team scoring the Goal Defense helps the Goalkeeper, and the Goalkeeper tries to stop the other team scoring.

I think netball is a fun sport and You might want to try it too. It’s a great way to stay active and have fun.

My Totara park and botanical gardens trip

I recently visited two amazing places: Tōtara Park and the Botanical Gardens. Both places are truly special.

When I walked through Tōtara Park, I felt like I was in a big forest. The trees towered above me and the bushes and stream running through it made me feel like I was in a hidden world. It was so peaceful and quiet, with birds in the trees. I saw some really cool things there, like a big rock that looked like a turtle and a tree with a trunk that was shaped like a heart.

The Botanical Gardens were different, but just as amazing. They were like a big park, but with so many more colours and types of flowers and plants from around the world. I saw a big fountain and a garden full of roses which smelled so good! I also saw plants I had never seen before.

As I explored both places I realised that they have some things in common. They’re both really pretty and fun to explore. They both have lots of plants and trees and they both make me feel happy and peaceful.

But they’re also different in some ways. Tōtara Park is like a wild forest, while the Botanical Gardens are more like a planned park. Totara Park has more trees and bushes, while the Botanical Gardens have more flowers and plants. Tōtara Park is quieter and more peaceful, while the Botanical Gardens are more lively and colourful.

I think both places are special and important in their own ways. Totara Park is like a big forest. The Botanical Gardens are like a big bouquet of flowers.

The incredible Tolkien

The famous JRR Tolkien made extraordinary books like the hobbit,The lord of the rings and fought in World War 1. Tolkien has experienced many unpleasant things.

The Lord of the Rings was a book that Tolkien wrote. It was a fetishised book about heroes who set forth to save their world from   Evil. You may be wondering what inspired him to write The Lord of the Rings. What inspired him was primarily by his profession centred on the study of old English literature, especially Beowulf, and he acknowledged its importance to his writing.  Drew upon his own life experiences from his childhood and his time serving in World War 1.

The Hobbit was also one of the books Tolkien wrote. He wrote it before The lord of the rings. The hobbit was inspiration from the authors own experiences like fights from World War 1 Tolkien had two close friends who died in the battle and who fought across ground filled with rotting dead bodies in one of the deadliest battles in human history. Another fact is that he originally started telling this  story to his children as a bedtime story just as his mother had done with him and his brother. Facts about John Ronald Reuel Tolkien He got married to Edith Bratt in 1916. He studied at exeter College and graduated in 1915 with first class honours in English language and literature with old Norse as his special subject. Tolkien also surver in the British army during World War One.I Have more facts about Tolkien it’s look him 12 to publish The Lord of the Rings. He originated from bloemfontein an African speaking area. He was born in 1892 on the 3rd of January. He wrote the lord of thine rings in (1954 1955 ).

How Tolkien died from a chest infection Tolkien died from a chest infection in 1973 from a bleeding ulcer at the age of 81. He was buried in the same grave with Beren added to his name. He had the name luthien engraved on Edith’s tombstone at wolvercote cemetery in Oxford when Tolkien died 21 months later on the 2 of September.

Thus Tolkien was as we have read is a book written and was from Birmingham he went through many hardships in world war 1 he’s books took over a decade to write he had fought many challenges but in the end lived till 81 due to a chest infection.

VR learning

In vr learning we learnt that the pollution is horrible for our environment and how damaging it can be. There were tires, plastic and more but when we saw a place called goat island it is protected by the government

That means no fishing, u can’t throw trash anywhere u have to keep it to yourself  and also u can’t take shells. We also saw the unprotected area one of them mane problems there where that people were overfishing like they would take the baby fish and the big fish but when they took the baby fish they were disturbing the next generation byr fishing them out as babys.

, and when you over fish Kina will come out and over popular and over time when there’s no fish kina will come Kina a sea urchins and when the over populated kina also eats seaweed and there are so many kinas they eat all the seaweed and when there is no more seaweed that part of the ocean kinda dies. and when there’s no more seaweed the Kina starves.

Kinas can also hibernate so when the seaweed grows back they can eat them and go back to hibernation.

Next stop the volcano the person from the Blake area help us explore and the name was grace grace took us to a volcano next to the waters we saw how it polluted the air and ocean

Science fair

  by kanishka and Janvi

Introduction

On Thursday 24 November, there was a science fair at school. We went to check it out. There we saw lots of different things like cardboard houses, lava lamps, volcanos, first aid, fibre and fabric, preserving food and making butter in a jar.

Cardboard houses

We saw some cardboard houses. They were really cool. Their houses had nice designs. We saw that they had toilet paper as insulation and glued it together. They had to cut out and drawed a template, first on the ipads then had to measure them. Then they started building. We took a look at them and we were interested.

Volcanoes from the Kahu’s

At the science fair there were volcanoes, not real volcanoes but made with wood, newspaper and glue. They looked really cool. They had really nice details, the volcanos that the kahu’s made were all New Zealand volcanoes. At the science fair there was a board which they had written. On Friday 25 November there would be an explosion for one  of the volcanoes. It seemed really cool and fun for everyone when they heard the news from the Kahu students.

Preserving food

When we saw the preserved food like cucumbers, lemon, apples, marmalde and eggs. They were really nice. At their preserving section we saw some recipes about how to make them and what are the ingrients of the preserved things. Even some of the food that they were preserving in STEAM was on sale so that people could tell how it tasted and some parent’s tasted and said “it was really nice”. Whatever they were preserving in their STEAM group can last a really long time for like 3-12 months and it would still be fresh and yummy.

Magnetic fishing

Next we saw magnetic fish which the pukeko class made. They were really fun to play with. Everyone needed to have a turn to get a fish, whoever got the most fish in the bucket wins. And lots of people loved playing this game.
