On Friday the 17th of March 2023 our year 0’s, 1’s, and 2’s made a wonderful slideshow to show what they’ve been doing, performed a couple of dances, and showed off their beautiful art work to the rest of the school and the Parents that came to watch their children!
The assembly of course started by gathering all of the other year groups and parents finding a seat. After everyone was seated the Kiwi & Kākāpō npc’s started talking, reading off their scripts. The npc’s soon got up to the national anthem on their scripts and everyone (including parents) had to stand up and sing the New Zealand national anthem. We were all singing at a different time but that’s alright nothing new. Straight after we sang the national anthem we moved onto the school Pepeha and again we were all out of time. After the Pepeha Mrs Fowler gave out 4 high-five certificates (A high-five certificate is a special certificate for the people who get 5 certificates in the same year. To get the high-five certificate you must give all five of your certificates in the same year to one of the office lady’s!)
After all of the normal stuff the kiwis & kākāpō’s performed a song they had been working on! I may or may not have forgotten the name of the song they performed… After their extraordinary performance some of the year 0-2 amusing artworks were shown. After the pieces were shown it was time for the year 3-4 maybe 2 performance which was a song working on in Kapa Haka. The younger Kapa Haka children performed a song which is called ‘I Te Ao I Te Po’ it is on YouTube if you want to learn the actions too! Once the Kapa Haka performance ended, it was time for the Kiwi’s & Kākāpō’s last performance… THE COCONUT SONG!! This was hands down the best performance ever performed (in my eyes) . The song has a nice vibe to it, the dance is kind of easy but also relaxing. I wanted to stand up and join the year 0-2’s so bad cause I love that song but I couldn’t so I just did the hand actions in my spot.
It was now the end of the assembly and while the parents were leaving to pick up their children at the normal pick up place they played a song and almost the whole school sang the song including me! Fish and chips are for me yeah!
