It was a gloomy night in Auckland, New Zealand. All you could hear was the thuds from the rain smashing against the windowsill and the sounds of the eerie wind blowing outside. The only source of light was from the streetlights outside but they weren’t bright enough to comfort Melissa from her fear.
Melissa had always had a fear of the dark and no one could help her overcome it. She would always creep around whenever it was nighttime thinking someone was in her house watching her every move but this night was different. This night Melissa was going to overcome her fear so she could tell herself that there’s no one watching her. She waited until it was 9 P.M. when she normally went to sleep with her night light on and she took a deep breath and turned off her night light and then closed her eyes to fall asleep.
Later on around 45 minutes have gone past and she has finally drifted to sleep fully. All was good until her dreams turned into nightmares. She couldn’t stop her nightmares that were about the person watching her being real and chasing after her while she ran as fast as she possibly could. She tried to outrun this mysterious stalker but they ran as fast as light and caught her within seconds and covered her mouth with a tight grasp so not even the sound of her breathing could escape her mouth. Her nightmare just kept becoming worse and worse every second and she was starting to pant heavily and sweat in her sleep. She couldn’t control her nightmare anymore and it was taking over, she was now sleep talking in her sleep exclaiming in a panicked but whispered tone “No, NO LET ME GO! HELP, HELP PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP!”. She was moving around frantically and sweating like a waterfall all while sleeping. This nightmare was getting the best of her and just kept getting more and more uncomfortable and unpleasant.
Her older brother Bj who was walking by her door at the time of her nightmare heard her panicked voice and tried opening the door but it wouldn’t budge, it was jammed. He kept trying and trying but nothing would work and he just needed to help his sister get out of this situation. Eventually he got enraged that he couldn’t open the shut door because of the jammed handle and slammed his fist on the handle and it finally opened. He rushed into her room as soon as the door flew open and shook his sister while sweating a bit from trying to open the jammed door. He was frantically trying to wake up Melissa but nothing was working. He tried anything he could think of (Shaking, speaking, screaming and slight but light slapping) but none of it would work. He didn’t want to give up but was losing hope and decided to pray to god to help his little sister and after 5 minutes of praying he shook Melissa one last time with more force than before and she finally snapped out of her discomforting nightmare and sat up quickly with so much sweat running down her face that it looked like a rainfall. Bj quickly pulled Melissa into his embrace and kept her in his grasp tightly as she breathed heavily with her heart beating 100 miles an hour.
Bj look at Melissa as her pulled away from the tight hug and looked at Melissa and gave her a subtle smile before leaving her room and closing her door leaving her with only her thoughts, emotions and sweaty body. Melissa took her phone and used the flashlight on it to find the plug for her night light and quickly plugged in her nightlight then turned off her phones flashlight and placed her phone on her bedside table. Melissa layer down and swallowed all her uneasy feelings and closed her eyes while still breathing frantically as she could hear her heart beat. She slowly drifted to sleep after half an hour and woke up a few hours later (9 hours later).
When she woke up she yawned and rubbed her eyes as her Pyjamas were damp from her dreadful nightmare. She got up and opened her curtains, she then turned off her night light before brushing her hair. Once finished with her hair she walked out of her room still recovering from her horrifying experience last night. She walked over to the dining table and sat down with her parents and ate her breakfast – while she ate she told her parents all about her life staying story. Once she finished speaking her Mum and Dad were both staring at her in complete silence with a look of disbelief and shock on their faces. Melissa then said to both of them “I’m never sleeping without my night light again because that experience will stay with me forever!”. Both her parents chuckled at the remark she made and nodded. Her dad then said “It’s safe to say your fear is staying with you for another couple of years” and she sighed and nodded.
Later on that night she went to bed but made sure her night light was on before peacefully falling into a deep sleep.
