Are you a Katiakitanga? How? What do you do? What do you not do? This report is to tell you what you can do to be a kaitiaki and help our local waterways and land and show that you are a helpful person.
The first thing you could do to be a kaitiaki is to help pick up rubbish and put it in the correct bins. For example the red bin is for general household waste and rubbish like old clothes, disposable containers and plastic that can’t be recycled. By doing that you are taking part of being a responsible kaitiaki in helping and protecting the environment.
The next thing you can do is get rid of any pests that hurt the environment like rabbits,mice/rats,weasel,pukeko and wallabies. Rabbits and wallabies do a lot of damage to our land by digging holes into the ground causing it to collapse and get damaged. Pukeko also eat baby birds like our ducklings etc but sometimes they can also be good at eating mice.
Another way you could protect the environment is by investing in native trees/plants by planting them and restoring the native bush around us!
