Samoa is an island where lots of people have grown up. Samoas official language is Samoan and American Samoan is also spoken. The Samoans native name for the language is called gagana fa’a Samoa Samoan is the oldest and most spoken language of the Polynesian family with 510,000 people who speak Samaon.

 

In Samoa they get tattoos but not ordinary tattoos, cultural tattoos. They mostly mean community, power, status, respect, and honur and are a mark of pride only to be worn by Samoans. But you can also get The tattoo if you’re not Samoan because it’s also your body.

 

Samaons traditional clothing is called Lava-Lava It’s like a long skirt or dress all genders and ages can wear. Samoan ladies wear something called puletasi but it’s mostly worn to events like weddings, church and more. Men mostly wear lavalavas because it’s a dress code and not all of them wear it.

 

Samoan cultreal food is sapasui, kale, povi masima, bread, and others. Taro is usually eaten with bananas or with meat. Samoans’ usual breakfast is panikeke which are a Samoan version of pancakes but they are round and fried. The most popular food in Samoa is pisupo (canned corn beaf) mostly eaten with bread or taro. 

 

Samoas flag is red, blue and white. The flag of Samoa was made official on January 1st 1962. The flag displays the white stars of the Southern Cross. The blue is said to represent freedom. Red is representative of courage, as well as being a traditional Samoan color.

Samoan used to use the pate and the fala for their music. The pate is a drum made out of a hollow log. A fala is a mat that is rolled up and then beat with sticks. Music is important in Samoa because music was used for celebrations, for funerals, festivals, church openings, chiefly or community gatherings, weddings and many other important events. Samoans national anthem is named “The Banner of Freedom”.
