So you wake up on a sunny day and you think you’re so lazy, so you take up a sport! You might be wondering “how about I play football”? Actually yeah! I want to play football! A football team has 11 players on a field at once, you can use your head, shoulders and any other body parts. The main one people use is their legs, but a rule is you cannot use ur arms! You can only use your arms if you are the goalkeeper. A football field is 45 by 90 metres long. With all this knowledge we can also add that Football is a sport played with football boots that have studs on the bottom so you can stick to the ground and get a better grip! There’s two objectives in football. Number 1: kick the ball in the net. Number 2: defend the ball from going into your net. Football is a pretty easy sport but it has become really difficult! When you do some skill moves like the “rainbow flick” the rainbow flick is where you put it between your legs, roll it up one leg and then hit the ball with the back of your heel while jumping. Once you complete these you will get the rainbow flick! Another skill is the “elastico”. The elastico is where you flick the ball 2 times with your feet, so like right and then to the left really fast. It’s a handy skill .You will feel stuck while practising, but when you do it, it’s so fun!
Football is played with a round ball which is pretty obvious. So with football it is really easy to play. There are a few complex rules like offside and 6 second rule. These rules are easy to catch up to but it’s really hard to follow during in-game situations. I’ll explain the 6 second rule now. So if the goalkeeper makes a save and catches the ball, he has six seconds with the ball in his hands. If the goalkeeper does this the other team is rewarded with an indirect free kick. Indirect meaning they cannot shoot and they will have to pass.
The other rule is ‘offside’. offside is a way more complex rule. Offside is a rule that if you break the other team is awarded a free kick. Offside is called when you are behind the last player and you make a run and the ball is passed to you. If that happens to you, you won’t be punished but the other team will only get a free kick. You won’t be given a red or yellow card. On that topic yellow cards are rewarded for doing 2 fouls or you can get them automatically for doing a really hard foul. Same thing for red cards, if you get 2 yellow cards you will be ejected from the field and will get a penalty depending on how bad the foul is. If you injure someone really badly, you get a red card.
There are other things that can be offensive, like doing a “handball” and arguing with the referee or starting a fight. Most of these things are not tolerated in football meaning you will be ejected from the field if you do it. Sometimes if you stop you will not have a punishment. If you handball in the goal keeper box and save a goal even though you aren’t the goal keeper, you will get a penalty and a red or yellow card depending on the situation. When you decide to “Brexit tackle” and you slide tackle from the back. You’re out of the field! So I don’t recommend trying to Brexit tackle people.
Football is a really fun sport and I’m super happy that I chose football. Football is my favourite sport ever! But I still like other sports like cricket. I enjoy watching Cricket and playing other sports like badminton, tennis and lots of other sports. I enjoy playing and watching every sport but I especially love the “UEFA” Champions League where they battle for the title of “the best in Europe”. It’s one of the biggest tournaments in football alongside the World Cup. It may seem football is easy because all you have to do is kick it with your foot but no! You need good ball control and dribbling too. And iIf you want to be fancy, skills!
