Cross Country

Cross Country happens every year which means it’s an annual event. Although it’s an annual event, it’s the most annoying thing for some children in the school like me. We do cross country because our school is a competitive school. We compete against our house colors which are Kowhai, Kauri, Tawa and Rimu

Before the race I was really scared. I was looking at the other people racing and my heart was racing too. All I wanted to do was reach top 8 to reach interschool. A few minutes later the teachers announced the year 6 girls. After them it was our turn. I was so nervous, but I dealt with it.

There it was, the teachers just announced the year 6 boys. I was so nervous. It was the warm up. The year 6 boys finished warming up. First we did a normal jog, Then we did high knees, To finish it off we did sidesteps. The race was about to start and I was getting butterflies. All I Was thinking in my head was no matter what I must get to interschool! So I tried my best.

The teacher asked us to go in a single file line so we could start. So we all went in a single file line. Boom! The teacher slapped the wood pieces together so the race could start. It was all great until most of the boys got pretty tired. I ran as fast as I could hoping I could make it into interschool. At the end when I could see the finish line, I ran! At the end of the race I ended up getting 9th! I was so close to interschool but it’s ok because I tried my best.

At the end of all of the races everyone in the school was in the hall to announce the winners. First the teachers gave out 1st, 2nd and 3rd certificates. When all the certificates were handed out the sportsmanship certificates were handed out. Then was the moment everyone was waiting for… to announce the winning house! In 4th place was Tawa!. In third place was Kauri! In 2nd place was… Rimu! In 1st place was Kowhai. Kowhai house won!

This was a really fun day. No one skipped cross country because they didn’t want to do it. They all took a try. Even though we couldn’t go to Totara Park, it was an awesome day. The thing I loved about it was that everyone tried!
