Week 3

Where did the water go?

It went downhill, because the platform is slanted,

Some of it went up to the clouds because of evaporation,

and the rest of it stayed on the ground.

Firstly,Miss Wang poured hot water from a kettle onto the concrete

Next, we pushed hard with the chalk and traced a thick line around the water

Finally we went back inside and posted a blog.

Week 2

Here is what drew in Week 2:

S2-Steam:Guardians of the EARTH Kaitiakitanga

Week 1: Water Cycle

What do I know about the water cycle?

I know that the water cycle has 4 steps Evaporation,Condensation, Precipitation and Collection.

I want to know why cycles happen in nature and why they are important

On Tuesday we drew the water cycle

and did the evidence slides

Here is my work that I did on Tuesday:

Term 1-Information Report: The Stars

The Stars

Did you know that the average star is between 1 and 10 billion years old? You will most likely have looked up at the night sky at least once or twice, so you definitely need to know what you are looking at right? This book will cover the brightness of stars, what they are made of and constellations.

Brightness

Stars are balls of light scattered across the universe, and the reason why stars shine is because of nuclear fusion. Nuclear fusion happens deep inside the stars core, it’s when hydrogen atoms smash together creating helium and releasing huge amounts of energy that warms up the gas. Fun fact, most stars you see in the night sky are bigger and brighter than the sun!

What stars are made of

Stars are mostly made of hydrogen and helium but the contain small amounts of oxygen, nitrogen and carbon, Stars are also composed of plasma and are formed by the gravitational collapse of large clouds containing cold gas. When the gas is compressed, it heats up and transforms into plasma. the temperature of the stars core depends on the mass of the stars

Constellations

A constellation is a group of stars that make up a shape in the night sky. They are mostly named after what they resemble such as Ursa Major (the great bear) or mythological figures like Orion and Hercules. There are also constellations that resemble Zodiac signs such as Pisces or Aries. In fact, all Zodiac signs have a meaning! Like the ones I mentioned , Pisces means “the fishes” and  Aries means  “the Ram/wolf!”

Goodbye

It has been a fun time with you we have learnt so many things like the reason stars shine, and what constellations are. But if you are still stuck you can go on these websites: Universe today,  earthsky.org, science for kids, and many more! And with that it is time to end this book, Goodbye!
