The Johnstons family Matariki preparation.
Last Matariki holiday the johnstons were having a family dinner with all family and friends.
Tilly was working on the decorations , Mikey was working on his gifts for his whanau and heaven-leigh and Connor ( the parents) were cooking dinner with nana and pop for the matariki feast. Aunty Tasha and Uncle Jeremiah were with the twins Annabel and Junior and they were getting ready for the matariki celebration at their cousin’s house. They made sure that they had remembered the presents for the whanau and the kai they had prepared for the night’s celebration dinner.
Once everyone had arrived at the Johnson’s house everyone was greeting each other “kia ora nana” said the kids “kia ora my mokopuna kei te pehea koutou katoa?” she asked the kids “ he pai matou nana!” .
“ kia ora pop” Said Annabel “ oh kia ora Bub” “ are you ready for some kai pop?” Asked Annabel “ Ae I’m always ready” replied pop they both started to laugh a bit “ Kai is ready!” uncle jeremiah yelled Once everyone heard that kai is ready they saw all the food was prepared on the table there was potatoes, salads, chicken, boil up, chop suey, hāngi, fish, sausages, mince and cheese pie, hot chips, chicken Patties, Pork buns, Toroi and much more. Everyone went and started lining up to get their food. Tilly looks at the food then look at her uncle and asks curiously
“ uncle, what’s this thing with the shell?” “ That’s a muscle, it’s a kind of fish.” replied uncle jeremiah. Once everyone finished eating their kai everyone started talking to each other. The kids were talking about school drama (mainly the girls) but the boys would mostly talk about video games and the parents, they were just talking about how much gas is costing taxes blah blah boring parent stuff. A couple hours go by and now it’s time for the Matariki stars to come out and show their brightness. The whole Johnston whanau as well as the Tamakifamily (their neighbours) joined them to watch the stars “ TORU RUA TAHI!” The kids had counted down and there were the stars. And that’s how the Johnston Whanau spent their Matariki
