Do you remember? Camp poem

Do you remember? The eighteenth of October.

The first day of camp, finally over.

The first day went by, far too quick

It went as quick as a flick.

As we settled in our bunk,

the lights went out and the shivering begun.

My sleeping bag did not do its job

I felt like the meat section in a grocery shop

The next day we went,

hiking was our first event.

The amount of stairs, plants, and streams we saw

Made our jaws drop in awe.

As we came back, sweating like like the Hunua falls

we all raced to our bathroom stalls.

When the night came rolling in;

we were in our beds, fast asleep and tucked in.

The rest of the days went by

activities like archery, kayaking, and riding on a mountain bike!

It had finally arrived, our last day.

The day we can finally go home and astray

We sang our final goodbyes and played our last games

while we finished our last camps days.

“Goodbye Camp Adair!” We all cheered

As we drove away, our camp days finally cleared.

Creative Writers Competition

Yesterday, I saw an old man, barely able to walk, picking up rubbish. All the other kids trick or treating walk right past without a single thought, I wondered; why hadn’t I been more like him? Picking up rubbish even if it’s not your own. Why had the kids decided to walk past with strong, capable legs, – which I’m not saying that the elderly people don’t have legs that aren’t capable – yet the old man picked it up with weaker legs.

Picking up rubbish wouldn’t just help with our plants, but it would also help with plastic in the ocean. Rubbish ending up in the water is quite common, to be exact 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic estimated to be in our ocean. More than 80% of the world’s sewage is discharged into the ocean, now why would this be such a big problem? Animals and their habitats, 100,000 animals die annually from entanglement. It’s all because we forget to throw away one piece of rubbish, you may think to yourself, “oh it’s just one piece of rubbish! Won’t do any harm.” Well a lot of other people think that too, so imagine what the damage of “that one piece rubbish” could do.

Now imagine if you were a mother turtle, chilling with your baby turtles on the beach. You head out to grab some food and go back just to find your group of baby turtles laying dead covered in plastic. It wouldn’t be a lovely sight nor would it be safe anymore for even yourself as a grown turtle. This is why we should do daily clean ups at the beach, picking up litter no matter how small the scrap is.

Picking up rubbish is not only benefiting the environment, it helps our animals and the habitats they live in. We’re not only helping the animals but we’re also helping our future generations to have a healthy, rubbish free life. Their habitat is also a part of our home. Next time you drop a piece of rubbish, think to yourself: how far will this one piece of rubbish go?

Totara visit ₊˚ʚ 🦢₊˚✧ ゚.

For our launch sessions this term, we visited Totara park. The purpose of this trip was to identify plant species using a camera app called: seek. In the app seek, you take a picture of a plant – the closer the better! – and it will show you the species, there will be a number of green dots on the screen showing how accurate the ai assumption is. Perhaps for example, five dots or more is a more accurate guess. If the picture is blurry, bad quality or too far away, the less accurate the ai is.

The goal for this whole trip was to use the seek app properly, and to identify five or more plant species. As we hiked through Totara park, we saw multiple different kinds of plants, some were able to spot little bugs as well! Sadly I couldn’t, but I found five different plant species throughout the whole day. Afterwards, we walked back to school and made a little reflection about our visit.

We spent around 20 minutes in our launch session to make the reflection, here’s mine; hiking through the bush was amazing and felt so fresh. In my opinion, Totara has a close connection to our theme of kaitiakitanga*. It was a lovely view and I loved looking at the tall trees and the soft green grass! Overall, this was a nice and refreshing trip, and I learnt a lot about new plant species.

The Knight

                                     ⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆

The knight was an ant compared to the giant

but the knight wasn’t scared, she was like a brave lion.

As their cries out for help screaming and shoving past each other,

The knight stood her ground like no other.

The giant roared louder than anything “ROAR” he shouted

as the knight just pouted.

She could the fireballs falling

looking like they were squalling.

So she drew her sword to his volcano heart,

The puny little knight had to be smart.

The giant screamed, and roared and ranted

As the village began to chant.

As they chanted, the wind grew louder

The knight threw her sword, but the monster allowed her.

They defeated the monster at the end of the day

The village yelped; “hip, hip hooray!”

Hi, my names Pareejat and this year I’m a Kahu student of 2024. Let me tell you about all the things that has happened in the Kahu space so far!

My first few days in Kahu had been wonderful and fun, this week (week 2) we started with SDL work with out teachers, we would take our P.A.L (our blue folder) with us to our session and we would discuss about a topic like math or literacy and Te Reo. During math we were going on this website called “E Ako”, it was this math website were you have to figure out the questions in your SDL book and type it into the website and click the arrow to go to the next one. Time from time we would go to different workshops with different teachers and mark our writing assessments rubrick (a rubrick is a sheet of paper to use for self marking our writing assessment). We have also been working on our lantern art for the Chinese New Years festival which is on 15 of November. We’re making these lanterns with circular cans and using shiny yellow paper to wrap around and make this little strings hanging from the lantern. After finishing the final lantern, it will be showcased in the festival.

Thats what I’ve done for the first two weeks in Kahu! Thank you for reading this, Pareejat.
