Moāri language week

Moāri language week is a special week that we celebrate once a year  our school does kapa haka poi we do daily hidden pātai ( questions ) and we answer the questions and then mrs Kelly will pick a person out of a bucket and then that person gets to get a prize from the school office.

In our school we have this group of kids then perform kapa haka a moāri dance and this morning the group performed this dance in front of the parents for the first time. The kapa haka group has been practicing for 2 terms ( 6 months ) . Their performance was incredible . Here’s the link.

Hangi is a traditional dish. So  it’s more of a primitive cooking, we started digging then  making a pile of wood volcanic rock and iron. We must then prepare the food (kai) Then we put the Kai in a big freezer. We wait a few hours and then we put the hot Rocks in the hole then we place the Kai on top of the rocks. We will put wet rags and then we use the dirt and we let it cook for a few hours.

At lunchtime there are time activities for all the kids in the school then after lunchtime the teacher packs it away for tomorrow.I think that moāri language week is a fun and stressful week because you will have to try your best to speak moāri.

  1. Great work, Maybe practise on making sure your sentences make since and aren’t going on for too long but great work on explaining te wiki o te reo Māori. Ka Pai!

  2. Great blog Raihaan! I loved the way you used a wide range of words. I did however notice, that your first paragraph had little to no punctuation, so maybe something to work on for next time. I’m impressed with the progress you have made with your writing, keep it up!
