The start of the term

This term a lot hasn’t  happened yet but a lot will happen soon. There are a lot of sports to try for this term, such as rugby, orienteering, netball, hockey and a lot more so far the first one is rugby then orienteering and then netball then hockey. So far i have made the rugby team and is extremely excited and nervous because in rugby you could get injured and stop you from playing other sports

Orienteering is where you use a compass and a map to navigate your way around the landscape that you explore. I’m excited for orienteering because orienteering is where you can be active and it’s a sport anyone can do.

Netball is very similar to basketball where you pass the ball and shoot but when you have the ball you can not move and have to shoot and or pivot to get a better angle. My Aunty, my mum and my older cousins played in a netball team so I’m somewhat good at the sport. I look forward to playing sports this term with my friends and classmates.

This term ha shad a good start for me this term and I look forward to a successful term

Food tech

In term one a handful of kahu students went to food tech. In food tech we learn how to cook and how to keep an organised bench top. So far this term i have made cinnamon scrolls, pizza, fried rice and many others my favourite that we made was cinnamon scrolls because it is an easy to make recipe that anyone can make at home with only 6 ingredients ( Greek yoghourt, flour, white sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon and Nutella.

How we made this was rather easy we took a cup of Greek yoghourt and 3 ¼ cups of flour we put 2 cup in a large bowl and add the yoghourt we mix the yoghourt and flour  we lay half the cup we had on the side and place the dough on the counter and kneed away till we have a roll able dough. We roll the drought into a square or rectangle, we spread nutella and then we sprinkle the cinnamon, brown and white sugar. We roll into a cylinder and then cut into our desired size.

We place the scrolls on the oven tray with baking paper then we turn on the oven at 180 degrees and set a 20 minute time and place in the oven.

When the scrolls came out of the oven there was a sugary substance that was like sugar paper. It was edible but very sweet. Some ate it and some thought it was too sweet.

I think that food tech is a good way to learn to keep your workspace clean and organised

Convince me

I think that our school should allow going and coming to school in our PE gear.

Our. School pe gear has our school logo. I think our school should build more toilets because when it’s the end of the day and people want to change. Into their uniform there is a huge line.

I think school should start at 9 am and end at 3 pm.  We should have longer play times and there are less workshops.

I think that the home group should be put closer and there should have more tables and the totrays should be close to our home classroom

My reflection on the term 1 TGS sports

In term 1 our school participated in various sports such as softball, swimming,  cricket, Ripa tag, I will be talking mainly about softball. We went to softball with high hopes of winning.we have been training every lunch and we have been making lots of improvement. Soon we had been informed that the year 7 boys had made counties because no other schools had entered in this tournament. So we were excited to be able to go to the counties.

We soon left to go to the counties. We went with high hopes of winning when we got there we set down a tarp under a tree and left all our bags a gear on the tarp we all grabbed a glove and paired with a buddy and the we grabbed a ball to warm up our pitcher ( laiko/shabd) were getting ready to pitch to the back stop.

We were ready to play our first game. We went on to versus Pukekohe intermediate and won. We had won with  3 games left. It was already 10 am so we decided to eat morning tea. Our next game was against Manurewa 7 boys at 11 am we were practising our throwing, pitching and catching.

In these games we were nervous because their pitcher could pitch really fast. When it was my turn to bat I was hit by the ball so I got a free walk. We ended up losing these last 3 games and came dead last but we all had fun which was the most important.

Being the only person in school

The only person in school ? I wonder what it’s like being the only person in school? The whole school to myself I could do anything I want, I could cook , I could watch tv and I could do everything I would normally not be allowed to. I could go home early. I can go anywhere whenever I want.

School would be so quiet I could invite my friends and play sports and watch tv. And wait and wait  to do anything I like. I feel like school would be boring without people and friends .

My idea of fun is sports and getting muddy and tired so me and my friends could have races and play sports such as soccer and basketball and not have to worry about uniform I could bring anything like dogs, cat, a cow and a sheep and then we have a race who’s faster us or a cow a chicken or even a sheep.

I think that having People in school would help so that your not alone and you’ll have a timeline to have your day on track and to make sure you’re more careful and so school isn’t so empty.

What would a new person need to know at the gardens school

The Gardens school is a school located in manurewa in central South Auckland. Our school likes to enter in a lot of tournaments so our school is a very sporty school.

Our school uniform is a unique set of  colours  for junior boys. They wear light  brown shorts and a red shirt with our school logo. For girls they wear a red green skirt and a red shirt the same as the boys. The intermediate school uniform is black short black skirt  and a red shirt, in the winter you can wear the black pants and our black jumpers.

When you come to this school you will need to know how our school works because many schools work differently. Our school morning tea is at 10:35am and ends at 11:05am and our lunch is at 12:35pm and ends at 1:25pm. In our school we don’t allow chewing gum like some other schools do, our school is fairly new so we like to keep it clean for new students that come and join us.

Our school has been around for a long time but we have had three different school buildings. Our old building was made up of 15 little classrooms. Our school has a few subjects such as reading, writing, steam which stands for tech engineering art maths, we have Spanish history and cooking. When you come to our school you’re given a wings badge. Wings stands for to wonder to innovate to nurture to grow to succeed.

Our school has names of birds for different year levels so grade 1 is kiwi and grade 2   is kakapo and grade 3 is pukeko and year 4 is kotuku and year 5 and 6 is tui and year 7 and 8 is kahu. Our school is made up of three floors. On the 1st floor we have the  kiwis and kakapo and on the second floor we have kahu and on the 3rd floor we have tui and kotuku.

Blake expedition marine reserve

One Thursday morning Blake’s expedition came to my school and we did VR  ( virtual reality) . We were about to learn about the environment, fish, pollution, and marine reserves. First we will start off with fish, we first went into a marine reserve and we saw manta rays, sea lions nemo and dory (clownfish ) ( blue tang ) turtles, sharks, whales, dolphins and sea sponges. Sea sponge is a unique organism they don’t move; they feed off the plankton that float by but pollution in the water stops the sponge because it blocks the holes.

The environment has changed over the years, see in these photos one was taken in 2014 and the second and third is 2015.

So what us New Zealanders need to do is spread awareness to stop the  killing of coral reefs around NZ due to pollution habits having been destroyed and fish dying and losing their homes.

Overfishing has become a problem to our oceans because fish are being taken away necessarily  because the limit for fish is 7 per person thats a lot because if u and your 5 friends went fishing and caught 35 fish it’s a lot of fish taken away from that area and there food source is sea urchins and they will reproduce and over populate and they eat seaweed and when the seaweed is gone fish home and no fish for humans to eat and the food chain is broken

In VR we saw a dormant volcano with lots of sea creatures under the sea bed but due to an inlet in the sea floor there’s no seaweed and fish rely on each other for food so the little fish get eaten by the big fish and then the big fish die and small fish eat the dead fish so on and that’s how in harsh conditions fish survive

My favourite part of this journey was seeing the manta ray glide over us and we were able to see its mouth because the manta rays m,outhouse are on the bottom because they filter feed like whales.

Reflection on steam

My three goals this year were to  recognise that something is not working, they may need assistance to redirect learning, identify if they have been successful/learnt the concept of being taught, evaluate assessment data, identify their next steps and what has been achieved. I think I have achieved my goals by helping someone who needed help and when I realised they weren’t understanding what I’ve been telling them so I tried a different approach  and it worked. After a while of helping this person I was able to find a way to get them to learn from there. It was a matter of practice and maintaining it. When we were assigning our own goals some needed more help than others so those who were finished helped others to find their new goals. For steam in term four we needed  to make candles  and a poster to represent the steps and we did that most of us helped by colouring, cutting, printing and glueing and a whole lot more. On some days when my group was dancing and ucalaly  so I was alone Ubut then TK, Jade and Ethan helped me and they helped get all the hard stuff done so they were a lot of help for our group.

Have you ever been to Ambury Regional Park

On Tuesday 15th November a bunch of kids from the Gardens school came to my home. They were all wanting to pet me and touch my fluffy wool but that day Before i had gotten shoren it was the worst experience of my life. They grabbed my chin and turned me upside down and then they used these weird sheers and they cut my fluffy wool and then all my fluf gone in a matter of minutes. Then they threw me down a shot to the rest of the flock and then we all talked about the scary people who took our wool away. We heard the cows laughing at us because we were wooless. They went “moo moo”.

We went to the pasture where we had delicious grass and pellets me and my friends billy, jack and Joelle  we were like dude its so hot like if we had all that wool so we were glad to have all that wool gone we went to the horse next door and asked him if he was overheating in his massive coat of hair. “Horse” oh man its hot im like in Mali.

“Sheep” we went to see the cows having milk. We asked the people if we could have milk. They said you’re too old for milk, you’re 9 months old and need to eat grass. We had grass in dissatisfaction. At 9:30am we were chased by a ravage dog. I believe that the breed of the dog was a sheep dog. And this man picked up Jensen  and put him in a pen and then he had a piece of grass up his nose and it had this liquid on it.

We were eating our grass in peace then all these kids  were screaming because a peacock  named Lilly was doing a show. It was so boring but they liked that more than us so we retaliated and went “sheep” baa baa baa baa baa…  after that they came and fed us grass. Then they went to the fat pig and were taking loads of pictures of them.

Then the black fat pig named Jeff  escaped and we were baaing and the cows were mooing the turkeys were gobbling and. The ducks were doing nothing but eat grass. Then these students went to the un-shored rams to see if they would let them touch them. Then they ran away then this girl ate grass like that’s for us, not you.

We went on eating our grass and then we went on this bridge in the middle then we  ate and ate and ate and then we slept.

Mrs Hansens garden project

Every Friday I go with Mrs Hansen with a few others. You’re probably wondering what we do, with Mrs Hansen we are learning to improvise. Our project is to build a stand for a sink and a working tank and plumage system. So what we’ve done is we have watched videos to understand the concept of what we’re doing and what model tap and pump we’re using. Our goals are to build this project without electricity.

our list of items are:

Materials

  • 8 metre pvc pipe
  • 16 metre long wood
  • Glue
  • Drills
  • Saw
  •  Screws

After weeks of planning and finding the right tap for the design, we got the materials to build. Last week we started by building the bench. We needed screws, glue wood and a drill. We started by measuring the length of each side then we cut and made sure that all the pieces were the right size.  We started to glue and screw it started to take shape after we built the mane frame. We started adding supports after that we flipped the stand and watched it stand on all four legs.

This week we are going to install all the pipes and add a gutter to the shed where the tanks are close to. We need to assemble the tap and have it connect to the bottom of the tank. Once we have that all done we are going to make sure that it works and then we are done and have a working sink in our school garden.

Halloween

Have u gone trick or treating? This halloween I’m going to the school disco every year the gardens school hosts a for all the school students. This disco includes snacks, soft drinks and a sale of toys like glowing rings, yo-yos and a lot more.

My favourite part is hanging out with my friends.

This halloween disco I’m wearing a chequered suit or a squid games contestant. Our school disco starts at 7:30 pm to 9:30. My friends are dressing up as triangle squid game guard, a circle squid game and my last friend that’s going is a skull trooper.

On 31 October is halloween. On halloween we go out in costumes and have a bucket to hold candy. For some people trick or treating is a tradition and some do it for fun. Did you know how Halloween started? It comes from All Hallows’ Eve and means “hallowed evening.” The history of Halloween dates back to a pagan festival called Samhain. Hundreds of years ago, people dressed up as saints and went door-to-door, which is the origin of Halloween costumes and trick-or-treating.

I think halloween is fun and scary because you go around collecting candy but the origin of halloween is too hord off evil spirits. I go trick or treating with my mum and dad. What about you?
