Famous Singers – Miss Mauga

Us Tūī 3 learned about the famous New Zealand band Six60. Six60 is a popular band that was formed in Dunedin in 2008 by a group of university friends. Their music mixes pop, rock, and reggae, and they are known for hit songs like Don’t Forget Your Roots and Vibes. Six60 has made history by selling out huge stadium concerts across New Zealand, including Eden Park in Auckland. They are proud to represent Aotearoa and often include Māori culture and language in their music. We really enjoyed learning about Six60 and how they became one of the biggest bands in New Zealand.

Then we got to create our own band project. We had to make groups of five and design our own instruments like guitars, bass guitars, pianos, and drums just like a real band. Each group needed to have one drummer, one guitarist, one bass guitarist, one vocalist and one pianist. I was in a group with Atharv, Ayan, Kavish, and Ayansh, I was the drummer, Kavish was the guitarist, Ayansh was the bass guitarist, Ayan was the vocalist Atharv was the pianist and I was the drummer. Together we called our band The Chosen Onez. It was really fun working together, building our instruments, and pretending to be a real music group just like Six60.

Later on during our work on our instruments, one of our classmate, Diyon decided to join our group, because he wasn’t at school when we decided our groups. Diyon said he wanted to be a drummer so now there were two drummers. After we finished making our instruments, Miss Mauga took pictures of us acting like a band and we used our instruments to pretend to play a song from the TV. And we were done everything.
