Famous Authors – Margaret Mahy Steam wk 1

With Mrs Barrowman, we learned about the famous New Zealand author Margaret Mahy and her amazing books. Margaret Mahy wrote many stories for children and young adults, filled with adventure. Some of her most popular books include The Lion in the Meadow, The Great White Man-Eating Shark, and The Witch in the Cherry Tree. We learned that she loved writing about magic, family, and creativity, and her stories are loved all around the world. It was really fun reading and learning about her life and all the special books she created.

She won many awards like, the Carnegie Medal which she won twice, and is one of the highest awards for children’s books, and she also received the Hans Christian Andersen Award, known as the “Nobel Prize” for children’s authors. Margaret Mahy even became a Member of the Order of New Zealand for her work.

Margaret Mahy was born in March 21, 1936, in Whakatāne, New Zealand. She never got married, but she had two daughters named Bridget and Penny. Later in life, Margaret Mahy even got her first tattoo  a small spiral Margaret Mahy passed away on July 23, 2012, but she is really an amazing author everyone Loved her.
