House assembly

House assemblies !

Why I think you should participate in house assemblies .

You might think where’s the point in dressing up in house colours it’s hard to find the right colour and just a waste of time but trust me dressing up and supporting your house is the best ! everyone around you would be wearing the you house colour and when your the only one who doesn’t it would be like you one the odd on in the group  but other then that it’s just fun to be out of your uniform and wearing / supporting your house colour .

what we do in house assembly ;
first we our teacher sends us off to were our assemblies are . Once we get there we start of by doing our chants and maybe learning a new one then the teachers who are in that house give tokens to who ever is being good . After we’re finished doing our chants the house captans and teachers choose who should get a certificate for participating or just being good , once  we’ve finished all of that we head back to the Kāhu space and talk about what we did .

conclusion ;
in conclusion house assembly is just a great time for you to dress up and support you house ! And participating is  even better not just for you for your house as well !

Totara park & Botanical Garden trip !

Totara park & botanical gardens reflection

Introduction

On Tuesday week 2/3 we went to Totara  park and Botanical gardens to learn about Kaitiakitanga. We learned about how the Puhni stream flowed and how Botanical gardens uses stormwater .

Totara park

When we went to Totara park we split up into groups and went to find different types of vegetation. We found palm trees , Dicots , Rimu trees and different types of birds . We also looked at how the puhni stream worked . We looked at all sorts of plants and insects , and when we went to Totara it was a rainy /cloudy day. We first sat down and talked about the app SEEK It’s about taking photos of random plants and actually seeing if it is a type of plant  . We left in groups of three kahus. We went first throughout the mountain and stopped near the puhni stream. As we were walking we took photos of all sorts of plants . Most of the photos  we took gave us a result but some of them said nothing or a random plant a example: when I took a photo it gave me a different sort of plant and when someone else took the photo of the SAME plant it gave a different result .

Botanical Gardens

When we had arrived at the botanical gardens we sat and Miss Rowland called out our groups. I was in group D with Mrs Dismyer . First we did a scavenger hunt to find plants / animals / insects , that were in the alphabet we found every letter except Y M and X . After an hour of doing the scavenger hunt we swapped over to learn about how botanical gardens recycle stormwater . They collect stormwater on the reroof so when It rains the water collects on the roof and then falls into a little pond and that water flows into different parts of the pond so it keeps flowing. They do that so the water doesn’t go bad . They  reuse the water in bathrooms only .

Kaitiakitanga

Kaitiakitanga are guardians of nature  . The main aim for Kaitiakitanga is to look after and protect all of the wildlife / Vegetation  . But the thing about Kaitiakitanga not many people are helping our vegetation and wildlife so there doing cultural practices to bring it back for future kiwis and to have a sustainable future.  A person  Kaitiakitanga is a person with deep sense of the environment .

Similarity

The similarity between Botanical gardens and Totara park is that there both a park /. Gardens , they  both have large areas of vegetation and insects . Both of the areas can’t cut down trees / plants . They both have some sort of way to recycle trash around  the gardens . Other than that Botanical gardens and Totara park have not many  other similarities .
