December 8

VR Expedition

On Thursday 8 December we went to a VR expedition by the Blake foundation. Before I tell you what we saw I will tell you what VR is. VR is also known as virtual reality, you have to put on a headset and you can connect it to a device and watch something on it. It feels like you’re in that spot and you can hear and feel stuff.

Then we saw Goat island. Goat island is a marine reserve which means that you can not go fishing and take anything from there. There were lots of fish and seaweed. The water was clean. Then we saw another area that was not protected and in that area, there were lots of Kina and barely any fish. The water was also dirty and there was no seaweed as well.

The things that I learnt in the expedition were that: if there are more snapper fishes there will be fewer Kina because snappers love eating Kina and that’s why the Kina hide under the rocks and seaweed. The non-protected area had no snappers because they caught them so that’s why the Kina overpopulated.

My feelings about the VR expedition were that it was a great experiment to see underwater and to see what the divers see in real life. I love virtual reality
