Week 2 blog post
This week, we continued with Sir Edmund Hillary, Jean Batten, and Ernest Rutherford — three amazing New Zealanders who changed the world.
We found out about the incredible things they did:
- Sir Edmund Hillary was the first person to climb Mt Everest, and he helped build schools and hospitals in Nepal and did you know that he went to both the North Pole and the South Pole.
- Jean Batten was a brave pilot who flew all the way from England to New Zealand by herself!
Ernest Rutherford was a scientist who discovered important things about atoms — he even split the atom!
We talked about how each of them inspired other people and made a big impact on future generations.
We also mapped Jean Batten’s flight path on a world map and saw all the countries she flew over. It was really cool to see how far she travelled!
Then we chose one of the three people and made a fact file about them. We wrote about who they were, what they did, and why they were important.
For our STEAM challenges, we got creative!
- We designed a survival tool or shelter, thinking like Sir Edmund Hillary on an expedition.
- We designed paper airplanes to test which would fly the furthest, like Jean Batten
We also built a structure to keep an ice cube from melting. We had to think carefully about materials, insulation, and design.
💡 What We Learned:
- We learned that one person can make a big difference in the world.
- We practised teamwork, problem-solving, and design thinking.
- We used science and creativity to build and test our ideas.
- We gained confidence in sharing our learning in different ways — maps, writing, building, and presenting.
It was an exciting week full of challenges, learning, and fun! We’re proud of what we created and how much we discovered about these inspiring New Zealanders.
Edmund Hillary week 1
We did a time line for a famous New Zealander in groups.
My group did Edmund Hillary and the people in my group are me Sariah , Kenzie, Hazel and Aariya.
It was very hard we had to research a lot but it was pretty fun.
After we finished that we had to do a time line on Canva by are self not in a group.
But that one was a bit easier to do because we already know a bit about the famous New Zealander.
Here is the pictures.
Going to the movies
I went to the movies with my family on Thursday and we went in the afternoon.
first we went to go get some popcorn and author snacks but there was a long line. But it was so worth it we got
fresh hot popcorn and a drink and also some chocolate also we got free popcorn refills it was great. But then
the movie was about to start we were going to watch Jurassic park rebirth. We realised that we came to early
so we had to watch some random adds for a little bit. But then we found out the seats reclined it was really
cool it felt like I was in my bed it was so relaxing. The movie finally finished it was night time now. I really
enjoyed the movie because I loved eating chocolate and popcorn and the movie was an adventure movie and I love adventure movies.
Week 4 steam blog
This week we wrote a sea turtles fact file
we had to write the sea turtles habitat the sea turtles
habitat is subtropical and temperate
regions of the Atlantic and pacific and
Indian oceans.
we also had to write the diet of a sea turtle
the diet of a sea turtle is Algae and seagrasses and
though they may also
forage.
here is a picture of my fact file
Week:5 blog post compare and contrast
This week in STEAM we compared the difference between the Sea Turtle and a Shark or a Whale. We used a compare and contrast chart to write down all the things that we found out that were the same and the things that were different.
I chose a shark because I think they are so cool and scary also
I think sharks have a lot of similarities to sea turtles.
Here is my compare & contrast work.
Week:8 brochure
This week we made a brochure about a sea animal l choose a platypus because
they are so cute but platypus babies are even cuter.
Also because I want to learn more about them. In my brochure I have the platypus diet how
to keep them safe and there habitat
and a lot of fun pictures and drawings so I hope you like it.
Week:9 sea turtle life cycle
This week we made a sea animal life cycle.l choose a turtle because they are cute and
there not many of them left. Life cycle of a sea turtles sea turtles are born on sand and there main mission is
to get in the water as fast as possible because sea turtle can be easily found and killed by birds crabs and
many more things. Only 10 sea turtle make it out of 50 into the water. It is also really hard for sea turtles
to survive in the ocean because they have a lot of predators like sharks orcas or as some people know them
as killer whales. So that is why I choose them. Here is my life cycle.Read more: Week:9 sea turtle life cycle
Week 3 – researching different life cycle of sea animals 🐳
In week three for STEAM we researched the different life cycle patterns observed in marine animals. We found that there are four main categories.
Oviparous – Producing young by means of eggs which are hatched after they have been laid by the parent.
Viviparous- Give birth to live young.
Ovoviviparous – Once the egg hatches, it remains inside the mother for a period of time
Metamorphosis – Change of physical form, structure, or substance

Week 2 steam- diving into the ocean
Title : STEAM Week 2 – Diving into the Ocean
‘This week for STEAM we learned about the different ocean zones. I researched and created a labelled diagram of each zone. It had to include a description of the zone’s characteristics, pictures of the animals that live in each zone and a brief description of the zone. There are 5 different zones which include: the sunlight zone (epipelagic), the twilight zone (mesopelagic), the midnight zone (bathypelagic), the abyssal zone (abyssopelagic) and the hadal zone (trenches)’
