Steam week 4 life cycle of sea turtles

During week 4 we looked at the life cycle of sea turtles. We chose a turtle to research from a choice of 7. I chose the Leatherback Turtle. I chose this turtle because it’s the biggest turtle.

I found out about its habitat, the stages of its life cycle, threats, conservation efforts and any other fun facts.

The leatherback turtle lives in Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans. I also found out that it doesn’t have a hard shell.

We then created a fact file about the turtle.

Week 2 STEAM – Diving into the Ocean

This week for STEAM we learned about the different ocean zones. I researched and created a labelled diagram of each zone. It had to include a description of the zone’s characteristics, pictures of the animals that live in each zone and a brief description of the zone. There are 5 different zones which include: the sunlight zone (epipelagic), the twilight zone (mesopelagic), the midni

ght zone (bathypelagic), the abyssal zone (abyssopelagic) and the hadal zone (trenches).

I learned that there are jellyfish, sea turtles, and dolphins at sun light zone. There are sea cucumbers living at the trenches zone.

Here is the diagram that I drew to show the different zones.

Week 3 – Marine Animals Reproduction

In week three for STEAM we researched the different life cycle patterns observed in marine animals. We found that there are four main categories.

Oviparous Producing young by means of eggs which are hatched after they have been laid by the parent.

Viviparous– Give birth to live young.

Ovoviviparous – Once the egg hatches, it remains inside the mother for a period of time

Metamorphosis Change of physical form, structure, or substance
