Each group has investigated a different awareness day or week about an environment issue. Here is some of the learning we did.
“During Wednesday Well-Being block, we rotate 3 classes for Music/Health, Visual Art and Hands-On Kitchen activities. We are hoping by experiencing hands-on kitchen activities, children will gain more knowledge on measurement and have a better understanding of some basic science concept and how things work. Here is one piece of the children’s writing after they had made jellies.”
We were very lucky to have Nanogirl come and visit our school and share some amazing superpowers science with us.
This term the Year 5/6 Scotch Club have been busy creating. Most of us are beginners to scratch so we have learnt to do lots of one off skills and then we have used these to create our own projects.
We used a variety of blocks to learn how to animate letters. Then we made an acrostic poem about our favourite animal.
We are going to collect the water off Weka roof and store it in a very large tank so that we have plenty of storage ready for the summer when we need water most. You can see the edge of the garden above the site in image 3. This is were we need to get the water to go uphill.
We have started measuring and levelling off the site ready for the tank to arrive. We worked out the diameter of the tank and then found the radius. Using this measurement we used a string and centre pole to spray paint the size of the tank.
Then lots of digging and beginning to move soil happened.
We also need to put our pump shed in this area. This will house all the controls for the solar panel to provide us with a power source with which to run the pump.
