Pasifika Group – Term One

Welcome to our Pasifika paradise, where Year 5 – 8 students meet twice a week during lunchtimes for a whirlwind journey through Cook Island hula and siva Samoa! It’s a kaleidoscope of movement, where every sway of the hips and every clap of the hands tells a story as ancient as the ocean waves. But it’s not just about dance moves—it’s about unleashing your inner island warrior and feeling the pulse of the drums in your soul. With us, it’s always a wave of laughter, a sprinkle of friendship, and a whole lot of FUN in every rhythm and step!

Junior Kapa Haka – Year 2

Kia ora e te whanau! Ko te kōeke tuarua e mihi atu nei. We are the Year 2 Kapa Haka group. Right now, we’re learning some simple moves. Like when we say ‘hope,’ put your hands on your hips. ‘Ki raro’ means put your hands down by your sides. And ‘waewae takahia’ means move your foot to the beat of the waiata, or if a haka then we takahia a bit louder. Let’s practice together! Mauri ora!

Lunchtime Ukulele Group

We started the week by jamming out with our lunchtime ukulele crew! We got the lowdown on where the ukulele comes from and why it’s called that. Turns out, “uku” means flea and “lele” means fly. They named it that because when you’re really good at playing, your fingers move super fast like fleas hopping around! Catch you next week for more tunes!

Ukulele group meet every Monday lunchtime in Mahi Tahi.
