Junior Kapa Haka – Year 2

Kia ora e te whanau! Ko te kōeke tuarua e mihi atu nei. We are the Year 2 Kapa Haka group. Right now, we’re learning some simple moves. Like when we say ‘hope,’ put your hands on your hips. ‘Ki raro’ means put your hands down by your sides. And ‘waewae takahia’ means move your foot to the beat of the waiata, or if a haka then we takahia a bit louder. Let’s practice together! Mauri ora!

Our Identity is so important!

We have been exploring our identity – who we are and where we come from. Understanding these aspects is crucial as they play a vital role in shaping and nurturing a positive self-worth.

Lunchtime Ukulele Group

We started the week by jamming out with our lunchtime ukulele crew! We got the lowdown on where the ukulele comes from and why it’s called that. Turns out, “uku” means flea and “lele” means fly. They named it that because when you’re really good at playing, your fingers move super fast like fleas hopping around! Catch you next week for more tunes!

Ukulele group meet every Monday lunchtime in Mahi Tahi.

Our Wellbeing Programme has begun!

Prioritising our Well-being is crucial!  We have kicked off Well-being sessions here at school!

Take a glance at these photos capturing our staff enjoying our annual ‘FArmageddon’ event. This gathering not only promotes team building and staff cohesiveness but also fosters positive interactions, setting us, as teachers, up for a fantastic year ahead. We are committed to taking care of our Well-being!

Enviro – bio security alert!

As part of the enviro specialist programme, students learnt about biosecurity and how vital it is to New Zealand’s primary industries and environment.

They took on the role of being a Biosecurity Inspector for MPI, (The Ministry for Primary Industries) and closely observed seed samples which were supposedly being brought into the country at an airport.

Using a magnifying glass and tweezers, the “inspectors” identified and picked out any seeds and materials which were foreign.

They then either passed or failed the seeds determining whether they could be a threat to our primary industries.

Students understood how vigilant and vital MPI officers are in keeping New Zealand pest free.

Sphero: Learning to code using blocks

We are learning to code our sphero.  Today we learned to control the sphero when making a square. We also pimped the sphero with flashing lights and sounds.

We are now building a bridge to program our sphero to cross without falling into the river below.

Tech Enrichment Club: Mindtest

The Tech Enrichment Club, a group of Year 5-8 students, used Minetest to create a virtual model of our school. There was a lot of logical and mathematical thinking involved when collaborating to make decisions about scale and measurements. They did a great job and had a lot of fun in the process!
