Every year in New Zealand we celebrate Matariki. It is a special celebration that Maori do. In our school every year we have the Matariki quiz. It is the Gardens School’s way to show that we also want to celebrate Matariki aswell!
For the Matariki Quiz we go in either our house colour team or our class for example if I am in Kowhai then that will be my team. On the day of the quiz you can wear something that is related to Matariki or stars. First thing we do is pick people to do some tasks. The tasks are
.running
. answer questions
. Arts and crafts
Once everyone has a job the quiz starts. The people who are the runners run down to the tent where Mrs Fowler sits to give out the question. The person runs up and the people who answer questions work out the problem. The people who do arts and craft will look on the slides and follow the steps to make Matariki art.
Once the timer is up and everyone did as much as they could we go to the hall. The winners are announced based off who did the most art and answered the most questions. It is always a fun thing that happens every year so I really look forward to it
