Does your school do Athletics? Well on the 29th of October we had our Athletics. We Arrived at the Stadium in classes and walked to the Grandstand where we would be spending most of our time. As soon as we got there we sat down in our houses and got introduced to the Athletics 2022 then we all cheered house after house. Moments later at 9.45 first events started however we only had one event which was long jump while the Intermediates ALREADY had their 1.5K run which I would think would be last.
When the first events ended I had to go to my first event which was High Jump. When I got there my parents were walking on the side and I didn’t see them until I was in line at the high jump and I thought I was doing better than I thought I was going to. After that we all got told to wait since there were still kids who were doing the 400M race so we all sat down waiting for them. When they got there they had the turns but for some reason they were allowed to go higher while we were still waiting to go again which my parents were a bit confused about but didn’t mind.
Moments after we had done High Jump we had to go straight to the 100M sprint where lots of kids were waiting from year 4 and up. While we were waiting for it to be our turn to sprint we were talking and stretching until it was nearly our time to shine. I was nervous to run, my stomach felt hollow and felt cold, it might have just been the wind tho. We stood up and then CLANK we all sprinted and it was so close and for the first time I had made it into a final, I was so happy about it.
As soon as we had finished our 100M sprint we had to go to the 200M sprint so we went there right after we were done. We got there and everyone who signed up for it and was year 4 and up was sitting down waiting for the race to start. Sadly there weren’t enough of us so we all had to run in one race and some of us had to share lanes. We all got ready to race and then CLANK we all sprinted and of course it was double the length so we would have to pace a bit and that is what I did but as soon as I got to the straight part of the track I full on sprinted however I didn’t make it to finals but that’s ok because I still had the 100M finals.
100M finalists were called from each year group and we all had to go to the start of the sprint. We got there and everyone in my year that was there was all very quick and I was worried. This was gonna be way harder than the first 100M race, but I was ready to stand up and sprint as fast as I could. My stomach felt so much worse but I just had to ignore it. We stood up and got ready and then… CLANK we all sprinted so quickly we were in a squiggly line, it was so close but sadly I just lost and came 6th however I was still happy since I even made it there.
After a while it was time for the relay and the year 5 and 6 were first. It looked very close while they were running but as soon as the last people got it Julian from rims full on got to the end first. Moments later it was the teachers vs the year 8s, the race started and the year 8s looked like they were I. The lead but as soon as Mr Wong got the baton he sprinted so fast and got the teachers in the lead and then Cassidy sprinted quickly to and lastly Mr VT got it and he got to the end destroying the year 8s.
The races and events were all finished and we all sat on the grandstand and we read the house winners 4th was Kauri 3rd was Tara 2nd was Rimi and the winner of the Athletics 2022 competition was Kowhai, they even did a victory lap. Moments later they read the winners from each year and our year winner was Thomas Karl who I knew was gonna win that by how he did.
After that we all went back to school and right after we went home. I felt like this Athletics was my favourite one and I also saw lots of cheering and the everyone was participating and that’s why this is my favourite Athletics of all time.
