So today I went to start on this weeks blog, and the topic was compare and contrast Totara Park and the Botanic Gardens, but I didn’t go to the Botanic Gardens so I’m just doing the kaitiakitanga (Protecting the environment) part of the trip.
In week 2 we went to Totara Park for a school trip. We went there because our theme for the trimester/semester is Kaitiakitanaga and “guardians of the galaxSEA”. We went to see the Puhinui stream and identify as many different plants as possible.
While we were there, I noticed that some parts of the Puhinui stream were clearer than others. I think it was because the shallower parts of the river were faster and ran over rocks that acted as filters, while in the deeper parts it went slower and didn’t run over rocks.
I have been to the Puhinui stream on a school trip before and a scientist with us said that seeing certain insects and animals in the river was a good sign. Unfortunately, I didn’t see any of these and it made me sad. I also saw a bit of rubbish.
On a brighter note, I saw heaps of different types of trees, bushes, firms, and other plant life! I saw a really interesting type of fungi called “Robust Bracket”. The seek app was really helpful with identifying plant life. However, it miss-identified a few things. One of these was when I was just holding my iPad while I walked to see if it would identify something, but it thought my friends Matthew and Toby were a type of bird that lives in Mexico!
Overall it was a fun experience and I really enjoyed it!
I think this is a good article. The vocabulary is very developed and precise. (Why do I sound like a teacher)
One thing I think you can improve on is the length of your paragraphs.
