My Lynley Dodd blog(◐‿◑) ┌(; ̄◇ ̄)┘

This term we learned about famous NZ people, and we learnt about a New Zealand author, Lynley Dodd.

Here are the questions that we asked:

WHO is Lynley Dodd?

WHAT are her books about?

WHEN did she start writing books?

WHERE was she born and WHERE she is now?

WHY did she decided to be an author illustrator?

We were then separated into groups for each Lynley Dodd character. There was Scarface claw, the fiercest of all and Schnizel Von Krumm with a very low tum. There was also Zachary Quack who never looks back. There was also Slinky Malinki and Hairy Maclary. Hairy Maclary is the most famous Lynley Dodd character, and I was in the Slinky Malinki group.Lastly, there was the group at the start and the group at the end.The group at the start was in charge of doing the introduction and the group at the end was in charge of the ending.

My group was in charge of Slinky Malinki. Me and the group decided to have our group name”The Slinkies.”So anyways, the lines for us on the assembly were:

Then slinking and sneaking with eyes green and sly,

Comes Slinky Malinki who loves to climb high.

A mischievous cat with a purr and prowl,

Always up to no good with a soft silent howl.

We also made actions to show to the audience and here they are:

So first we swayed our body from side to side except for our heads like we were sneaking up on something then on the Eyes green and sly part we put our index finger on our forehead and the made it go down onto our jawline. Then we made our hands like a T-Rex’s hands and made our legs go like people sneaking up on people in cartoons only that our feet were slower. Then after that we jumped high on the who loves to climb high part because we couldn’t climb on the stage. After that we used our thumbs and index fingers to rib our chins. Then, we used our fingers to make “whiskers.”Later, we wagged our fingers for the Always up to no good part.Lastly, we swung our arms forward for the Soft silent howl.

My fact file of Sir Edmund Hillary

Today I made a fact file of Sir Edmund Hillary and, well,  he might look a little like Roachy Roachy( shown below).Did you know that he met Neil Armstrong before?I didn’t.Did you know that he went to the Ganges river before?I also didn’t.Also, his wife and daughter died in a plane crash in 1975 in Nepal, so Edmund got a new wife, June Mulgrew.

This week in STEAM, we had a super cool activity where we became history detectives! 🕵️‍♀️🕵️‍♂️

In small groups, we were given a famous New Zealander to learn about. Some of us had Sir Edmund Hillary, the first man to climb Mount Everest! Others learned about Jean Batten, the amazing pilot who flew all the way across the world 🌍✈️. Some of us even explored the life of Ernest Rutherford, the scientist who helped discover atoms! ⚛️

In my group we had…..We worked together to find important dates in their lives – like when they were born, when they did something amazing, and when they changed the world. We put all our facts in order to make a giant timeline on a big sheet of paper. It was like building a story of their life!

We turned our paper timelines into awesome digital timelines on Canva. We added pictures, and fun colours to make them pop! 💻🎨

We learned:

  • How to work as a team 🤝
  • How to research important facts 🔍
  • How to use digital tools like Canva 👩‍💻👨‍💻

It was fun learning about these brave and clever Kiwis. We think they would be proud of our timelines!

⭐”I didn’t know Jean Batten flew across the ocean by herself!”
⭐”We put Sir Ed climbing Everest in 1953 – that was our favourite part!”
⭐”Ernest Rutherford was super smart! I liked finding his science discoveries.”

We can’t wait to do more STEAM learning and share it with you next time!

What is your body made of? Your first thought might be that it is made up of different organs—such as your heart, lungs, and stomach—that work together to keep your body going. Or you might zoom in a level and say that your body is made up of many different types of cells. However, at the most basic level, your body—and, in fact, all of life, as well as the nonliving world—is made up of atoms, often organized into larger structures called molecules.

Whoa!

So you are an incredibly complex being made up of roughly:

7,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 atoms!!

(Seven octillion)

What is an atom? The definition of an atom is pretty simple – atoms are the building blocks of basically everything. If it can be weighed and takes up space, it is made of atoms. Atoms are so small they can’t be seen with a regular microscope. So how do we even know they exist? What does an atom look like?

What are the parts of an atom?

Atoms are made up of even smaller bits called subatomic particles. There are 3 subatomic particles: protons, neutrons, and electrons.

  • Protons have a positive charge
  • Neutrons don’t have a charge
  • Electrons have a negative charge

MY NZ WORLDS PROJECT

I wish I had enough time to finish my project but I didn’t have enough time ,so here is my blog:  This term we are learning about innovation and impact NZ takes on the world, so I built famous NZ things. And I said “I” because I didn’t have a partner.*GASP!* So anyways, I build some exquisite models of Famous NZ places and animals(I didn’t have enough time to build plants).Don’t ask me about my weta, though. It looks pretty cursed.

  1. What NZ identity features did we include?plants and nature and stuff
  2. What did I learn about Aotearoa during this project?Inlearned about loads of places
  3. What digital skills did I use?3D building
  4. What would I do differently next time? Make my weta look like a weta, Not an ant.
