The Physical Characteristics of Insects

on September 16, 2024

The similarities and differences between a cicada and wētā is that wētā is native only to NZ while the cicada is found all over the world(except the poles). The wētā is also bigger than a cicada and the cicada has wings, but in similarities, they’re both insects, which means they both have 6 legs.

Some other differences between the 2 insects because since the cicada has wings fly away from danger while the wētā, doesn’t have wings, it powerful hind legs to help it escapes from danger by hopping like a grasshopper. It also affects their speed. The cicada since it’s smaller can go faster than a wētā.

Some insects have these characteristics such as flies, Hercules beetle, Atlas beetle etc.

Like the wētā, the cicada has spiracles because since they’re both insects, and all insects have spiracles to breath through, the cicada does have spiracles.
